I use PSP8. I'd like to create a circular shockwave 2d graphic to be textured onto a plane. Then, in explosions, I'd scale the plane larger and larger.

The problem is that despite quite a bit of experimentation in PSP8 I've not created any circular shockwave graphic that looks good.

I was wondering if anyone has seen any good tutorials on how to create such an effect?

Cheers

I'd try to make a nice ripple effect with the ripple filter and some kind of suitable texture, then mask>show all, then Edit mask, flood fill gradient circle light grey to black. Then fade the entire layer to about 60% then export as png.

Even better if you know the mathematics involved to make your own ripple function maybe you could apply one in real time in your game (But, then again, perhaps a function like this would be too slow to apply dynamicaly)

The word "Gullible" cannot be found in any English Dictionary.

arright ill give you a tutorial.. its pretty simple not sure how this will do in paint shop pro, i only use photoshop. but Create a Circle Shape, and rasterize the layer. If you have a Dodge tool, then slowly go around the edges so that it gradients white and then the inner part the color you want your "sonic boom" or whatever. now; take the blur tool with a small brush and slowly push from the inner circle out almost like a socket, take that layer, duplicate it, gaussian blur, set the layer properties to screen, and you should have a glowie circular shockwave. then you can scale it and rotate it in db..that would look cool!.. but also im somewhat new to DB so i dont know if db or dbpro can preserve alpha channels; either way using alpha channels would slow down the animation...

There's some good tutorials on deviantart.com that will show you how to create an eyeball. Now, don't laugh...The part of the tutorial that shows you how to create the iris, can be used to create a very effective carona. The carona and be used to create a shockwave effect.
