I haven't been around much lately, but have been quietly working on some games behind the scenes.

I've hit upon a ninja formula (chaos engine sorta style), and am out to make a 3rd person, distanced, 3d shoot em up with the meanest weapons and highest body count ever. Working title is "Kill Them All".

There are no enemies yet (my next step), but check out the quick fraps video demo of some of the weapons. Check out the weapon effects, and above all, the ability to hold two of any weapon type (including huge belt fed M249 SAWs and miniguns). Next I'll start work on hordes of zombies.

Download vid:
http://www.invisiblechainsaw.com/temp/KillThemAll.avi

The basic story is going to be that the player gets mildly upset about something, and decides to ethnically cleanse an entire race of zombies/mutant/ninjas with uzis/monsters/undead etc. using a vast arsenal of monsterous weapons. All weapons will be real though, using real stats of rate of fire, stopping power. Current weapon list is:
Handguns:
Colt Python and Anaconda, Desert Eagle, Glock and Taurus
Shotguns:
Winchester, Remington 870, MAG-7 stubby
Assault Rifles:
AK-47, Steyr AUG 77, H&K G36, M16
Sub MachineGuns:
H&K MP5, Ingram MAC 10, UZI and Micro UZI, AEK-919 Kashtan
Machine Guns:
H&K MG-43, M249 SAW, M60

Gonna do some research into incendiary and explosive weapons, but am aiming to include flame throwers, trip wire mines, grenades, laws rockets, RPGs, bazookas etc.

Anyway, the file is uploaded now, so I can stop typing random crap. Let me know what you think so far.

Working titles have a tendancy to sum up the aim of the game man! But instead of imagining some pumped up soldier shouting "kill 'em all!" picture some cool calm calculated rambo style hard nutt calming saying "KILL THEM ALL" with a glint of satan in his eye. hehe.

shouldn't this be in WIP?

Part of solving the problem is actually noticing that the problem is there in the first place

Great feedback so far

Looks fantastic Fallout. Those weapons look great.

Just needs a bit of level damage, and of course some enemies , and this could be superb.

Chaos Engine was a classic and it certainly looks like you're on the right track.

@Fog, was gonna say the same thing, but glad some peeps have dropped some "constructive" comments now.

Level damage could be a good idea. I can't destroy the objects that cast the light map, as they're integral to the level, and would make the lighting look funny, but I could definitely add extras here and there to blow up. Good idea. Will keep it in mind.

@N30F15H
The level is just a standard .x model, but then imported into Gile[s], lightmapped and exported as a .dbo, which works a treat and is very simply. Gile[s] is definitely worth the money.

@Mussi
The track is Ebony Dubsters - Power of Rah, it's not one of my tunes. I'm unsure what music I'll have in the actual game. It's gonna be an all out carnage fest, so chances are I'll go with similar dnb style dark music.

Cheers for the comments guys. It looks MUCH better in proper high res and at a high frame rate. With the frame limiter off, it runs at 240FPS (geforce fx5600, 1gb ram, p2.2ghz) so I think it should perform well on many systems.

The video doesn't show up here. I only see the WMP9 visualization as if it were a song.

Looks friggin good so far! I hate to be pushy about a game that doesnt even have enemies yet, but one thing you just gotta have in a game like this is objects that explode when you shoot them and give out huge damage to everyone around (including you, of course).

Yeah man. Lots of stuff to blow up, and I'll try out exploding barrels too. Have to think that one through, but I reckon I could do some funky stuff with bouncing debris.

Cheers for the comments people.

Whaaat? I thought I had the Intel Indeo Codec... ah well, downloading...

And next time you ought to convert the .avi to a .wmv so that people don't need to download all those dumb avi codecs by themselves.

Edit: It takes me to a foreign site that says "Save the file" and some other stuff in a language I can't understand. I'll have to Google this...

The video still isn't showing up here. My computer has the Intel Indeo Codec v.5 and the video still won't appear. I suggest you convert to .wmv. It's not that hard and it helps in the long run.

Evil Monkey: just because a movie is in WMV format, doesn't mean it is going to be more compatible than an AVI (or MPEG for that matter). All movies are coded and decoded by a certain codec (code / decode) and it is the responsibility of the end user to obtain the appropriate codec to view those movies. You just need to find the correct codec...

everyone who is having trouble viewing the movie:
you may need to install fraps to get an appropriate codec - http://www.fraps.com/faq.htm(read the very last paragraph):

"Where can I find the custom Fraps video codec (FPS1)?

The Fraps codec is put on the system when you install Fraps. If you've reinstalled Windows you will also need to reinstall Fraps in order to play back your movies.

Try installing DIVX from www.divx.com and use the divx player that you get when you install it to open the file.

Excellent video, it looks like it's really coming along. I cant wait to give it a try when it's done. Also, you should do a search on askjeeves.com or google.com for Phobia 3.. it's a game where you get a guy who picks up powerups and shoots off aliens that horde in.. The guy uses walls to hide behind while the aliens claw and eat through the walls.

I think it might be an interesting remake of the game, if not.. taking a couple of aspects from the other one. Just seems like the perfect base to pull it off.

Good luck, looking good

Ah, DivX, should've thought of that .

Looks fantastic! The animations are great, and so are the visuals. Hordes of zombies and lotsa blood should improve the feel significantly though .

I have DivX. I have XviD. I have the FRAPS codec. I have Intel Indeo Codec v5. Still no video. Come on, at least convert it to some other file.

The only incompatability I see with .wmv is its codec version. I'm pretty sure .wmv files only use the Windows Media Format codec. Also, they are only compatible with Windows but we are all Windows users and that does not matter. I've never seen a .wmv file that hasn't worked corrently on my computer.

Yeah, sorry peeps. I generually use DivX to encode video, but people complained about that too. I can't actually find a codec that everyone is happy with, except the built in Microsoft ones, which end up with filesizes at least 10 times the size. I think I'll stick with DivX in future, as it's fast becoming the standard. I put the vid together with Adobe Premiere (capturing each snippet with Fraps) so any codec that comes with fraps won't necessarily make it work.

I have zombies in, walking around, with no true AI yet, and you can shoot them and make blood fly out, and they push past each other quite nicely. I'll make a few animations for them getting injured and dying, and I'll work on some more blood effects, and then I'll do another vid and this time encode with DivX.

cheers for your interest and feedback people. All ideas are welcomed and will definitely be tried out if I like them.

Monster type 1: Zombies are in now. Working on the AI, but have run into some major problems porting to NGC v3. Gonna work on getting those resolved with Matt and then see where I can go from there.
