G'day guys, seeing as i got sick and couldnt complete my forensics course, and the lack of want to repeat it cause it's boring as hell, I tried coming up with a few other options. Immediately i thought of computing, programming etc. But nothing around suits what i want, (for the price im looking at :/ what ever happened to free education.) But when looking on the net for a fallout power armor costume I had the idea, i'd love to learn how to make costumes and props professionally, I'm not talking about takign a sewing course i mean proper stuff like latex (though i would do some sewing and leatherwork which is ok with me, i already made a nice looking studded leather ful suit. yeah sorry, I LARP.) I can't remember what the course is called but i have heard of it before, it's like make up and costume makign for media liek tv and film. But i'm thinking of taking it just to learn the stuff, maybe make a few costumes for my self, but also some to sell to people i know that would buy them. Anyone know anybody who actually does this and what the deal is with it?

[edit]I still plan on becoming a cop, but i'd liek to get into it on the side atleast

We sell Grimas, which is professional Face Paint and Theatrical make up. My daughter is now into amateur dramatics, just local stuff. However, I can say from this that there is a definite demand for this stuff.

Theatrical Make up is actually a very complex art, and is a very creative thing to take up. I watched the artist from grimas do the following, and it was fantastic stuff...

Making latex weaponary would probably be a nice little earner through E-Bay, especially RPG weapons. I don't think the outlay to get set up to make the moulds would be too expensive, you'd just make wooden models of the weapons first then make plaster moulds from them.

talk to some people in the industry at fox studios in sydney.

Its going to cost you a small air fare to see how comptetitve and lucrative the industry is.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

Van I've made larp weapons before but they arent made from that sort of latex work, its basically latex painted foam with a fibreglass core, you cut out layers of the weapon and glue it together then paint a few coats of the latex paint etc. the peopel i was with let you make your own one for the price of consumables but he said he wasn't allowed to sell it, not sure if it was cause of legal issues with the weapons or cause it would be an earner that he'd have to claim aswell as his income for tax purposes or something. and not particularly up for a trip to Sydney, but I'm sure there is something in Melbourne of similar worth, mayhaps I should look rounda bit more. And where do you work bat?

news flash! Tomorrow I'm gonna start on doign some designs and look for materials to make a BOS power armor costume from fallout tactics. see attached image of what im lookin at. It is a pretty tough job, the helmet would have to be done with a plaster mould and heatable plastic (researched on internet and found a storm trooper helmet guide), but i wont tackle that till i get access to a decent mould and vacuum thingy. the rest of the body is pretty much easy, just apply the non porous foam thats maleable enough to the chest areas and the puffy shoulder bits,get riveted soft plastic and sew/glue to a base long sleeve t-shirt and track pants outfit, (adding leg and arm armor with same foam. Then paint and attach a plastic chain for added detail. The hard bit will be texturing the outfit with paint, trying to get the roughened metal armor look isnt easy with spray paint unless you kno wwhat you're doing. but anyway hopefully if i do a good job i might replicate it an dsell to a few people.and i can't believe that i can't find any images of people with already made power armor costumes on the internet, there has to be atleast someone! though i have seen a few posts of people saying they are making one, but they are dated 2 years ago. anyway once i get the blue prints up and start doing some work i will post some screens.
