CyberSamurai Again,

This is a question for any of you composers of music for games. Is there a program or something to use to make music for games, or do you need to have a symphony working for you and what not...(this is not concerning gun effects and the like...but rather background music)

and what are some recommended tools for a newbie in this field?

thanks for any and all help

the best program for creating music is Acid. Hands down, it is disgustingly simple to use, makes cd quality mp3's with almost no work...it's bitchin!

Of course if you want back ground music you may have to do some work. I myself use Cakewalks for the melodies, then run the midi through Creative™ sound filters to make it realistic, then import into acid and mix it. It's great stuff! Fruity loops is also made by sonic foundary (who makes Acid) but is kind of lacking with out the main stuff. Acid standalone is 60$, you can get loop packages at other prices. There's no topping it's quality and versitility!

Creative™ is a subprogram that came with my Sound Blaster Card. Start>Programs>Creative, Creative Play center has many many sound filters, and I use wave studio and record a wav with a filter and "What U Hear," so I get the filtered .wav. Then I save it and mix it in acid. You can make super realistic stuff with it!

a course it sounds a little iffy, I mixed it on a 56k with wma, so there is a huge loss in quality. The mp3 is better, but no one's asked for it yet.

Try modplu tracker at www.modplug.com makes .it an I know
DB use IT's pretty well, if you need gravis patch sets I have the best there is, plus 3,000 more patches of insruments I made in gravis ultrasound format
"unlike midi that varis system to system mod will sound variably the same across all and directX supports mod play itself I think so no codecs needed.

midi also has limited instruments mod dose not for eatch patch is an intsrument.

If you need the patch sets e-mail me I have them all even rare ones I had to play and patch myself like

Bull Roarer, jews harp (Variable with all posible sounds), Purcussion hit
Indian clay fute, you name it I most likely have it.
