hey,

I was thinking about getting a winamp radio station together, i was wondering if anyone has ever atempted this and i would like a few tips such as: how hard is it? how much bandwith does it use up? and is it legal? i need to find out the last one first before i even start. obviously playing mp3s is illegal but if u buy the cds is that ok?

I have a radio station set up here. Tested through froogs server (Froogle / El_goorf same person). I wanted to do a dbp related show with skype call-ins and all that stuff but bandwidth is murder. So its kinda on the side for now. If you want the details of how its set up just say. its quite elaborate.

no problem

use winamp and shoutcast dsp plugin. my rig consists of 2 pc's and a 12 line pro mixer board, mics, headphone splitter/amps etc etc. But you don need all that for a simple broadcast setup.

Cheers, What i think ill do is buy a new puter first i am currently using a win 98 450mgz 128 ram computer but first i might set one up and get one of my friends to listen to 2 or 3 mp3s just to make sure its possible. I have 0.5mbps broadband what kind of listening figures do you think are possible?

Apparently playing songs from real artists that are for sale [signed music artists] is illegal unless you pay all these fees to various places. Lots of people don't, but it's illegal all the same. It is legal to host a talk show, play music by unsigned artists, music you wrote etc. Stuff you have permission for .
