I only have 512kbps can't wait till I go to uni where I'll get a mega-fast connection (like PiratSS) (some unis don't give you connections in your room but im going to ignore all of the ones that don't, no matter how good or if they want me )

My old uni has setup one of the student acomodations with Gigabit I think..

When I was there I was downloading WinXP SP1 to burn to CD. It was doing 5.8Mb/s (MegaBYTES, not BITS!!).. I think the limit was the cheap-ass hard disk as the HD light was on, not even flickering and nothing would really open up that quick

100mb/s? Surely you are speaking of your network connection?

100mb/s is T3, or a slow OC.
personally don't see the big whoop about the faster connections really..

i have a 600kbit, and it downloads everything I need at a sufficient speed; plus I get pings of like 8-45ms gaming.

it's only when i decide to download stuff like Saga of Ryzom (trial was released few days back), where it's 1.3GB download; you kinda wish for a bit more speed. but still that much data in 8hrs is still not really long when you think about it.

what i don't get is how so many people can actually afford these ridiculously fast lines.. i mean 4mbit is the fastest here (only available in London) and it'll set you back £90/month.
my connection costs me £14/month; i mean that much cash per month seems stupid.

but then i guess i pays for itself when your Warezing everything in site

Actually, my 5mb cable line is sort of a bundle package with my television cable.. I think the whole package costs around 125$(£63) a month, which includes digital cable and the ability to purchase movies in/ or recently out of the theatres..

My internet cable line costs 50$(£25) .. which i really dont think is that bad for a 5mb down, 1mb up line.
