Hi

Here are all news from X-quad Editor development.
The editor is now 100% fully running and the game source code too
I Just rewrite the GUI using now BlueGUI Ver2.0 Instead if BlueGUI Ver1.0 ... The editor look really .... nicer

Here are some snapshot from the new editor interface ( all is actually in french but it will be translated to be released in UK too ) :

1 / You can choose here all that is present sequencies, menu options game over and game ending :

2 / You can choose all map properties here ( skybox, map orders and loading images ...

3 / Here is a new "Real Time Skybox" with red ambient to look similar to planets like MARS ( full day/night/day cycle ) :

4 / Here is a snapshot from all the GAME ENGINE demo I'll release in the next few days :

The FPS game demo will be available in 1~2 weeks or sooner ...

A game demo will be available soon ..
The final release date for software is actually fixed to january 2005 ... the website should be available on that date too

thanks all

@granada : I decided to start x4 project when I see that X-truder ( my game for the last year TGC competition ) was 4th ... on no less than 60 submisions .. I though it was a good score for me
So the editor start here ... I used the principle I developped for x-truder adding new features to make the editor becoming a full independant "Game Development Package" ... and now, all is done ( except help and sample projects ...
It will make 1 year I work on that project on december ending ...

@Aoneweb : Like Aura mentionned, yes it will be translated to english

yes, I use a tile system but, object can be larger than tiles ( so the collision will be adapted to the tile size of the object )

Freddix, how in the world are you doing your lighting? Have you built your own light mapper, or baked the textures using a 3D program?

Nevertheless, FPS Creator might have some competition.

@MikeS : simple true lights from dbpro ... X4 isn't really in competition with FPSC as X4 is really different in many points

So basically you can place as many lights as you want, but only the closest 8 will be activated. Very nice.

erf ! Rich didn't mentioned it in the last newsletter ...

So, here is the link :
http://xquadeditor.free.fr/x4fpsdemo281104.zip

there are some features that are missing or beta in that small demo :
- some sounds ( bonus, footstep ) are missing
- no musics
- no PVS
- Simple light calculation.

commands are described in options and can be changes.
Demo support keyboards, joystick and mouse.

Please, tell me the FPS you get and your conf spec.

PS : change resolution at file SETUP/SETUP.INI

Alas, a crash . Leaves this DBP crash file:

Quote: "[COMMON]
PathToEXE=C:WINDOWSProfilesianDesktopx4fpsdemo281104X4FPSDemo01CrashOn_11_30_04.txt

[CEXE]
m_dwRuntimeErrorDWORD=0
m_dwRuntimeErrorLineDWORD=1076
"

Doesn't look like much help.

Does it require cube mapping, bump mapping or pixel shaders? My video card doesn't support either and that would explain it .

Nevertheless the screenshots look fantastic and I'm really looking forward to the game. Great job with the dynamic sky by the way, it looks light years ahead of the one I'm working on

Nice demo Freddix

Only thing it dident have was any sounds at all,best FPS 60,lowest 29 .All in all i liked the look and feel of it though.Maybe the screen fade in and out could be a little faster.

Edit Ran it at 1024.768.32

@mouse : which kind of video card do you have because the pointed line is in the DISPLAY_INITIALIZATION sub program I've defined for x4 ...

@granada : ok, I'll see for fading in/out
