• Intel 733-MHz Pentium III processor
• 128-MB PC100 RDRAM
• NVIDIA GeForce3 graphics card
• Microsoft Windows 2000
• AC'97 5.1 Soundcard
• DirectX 9.0c (download available)
• .NET Framework 2.0 (download available)

I know this is oddly specific, but that is exactly the system setup I need for testing on. Also if you happen to own an X-Box Controller, and $4 / £2 you can spare for parts; that would be peachy!

Thank you.

To see if Raven's new siggy will crash that PC.

While my stats are a bit higher than what you're requesting, I'm pretty sure my computer can't process anything better than the XBox (which is what you're basing the stats on I presume). Mind letting me beta test whatever it is you want tested?

Cheers,
Preston

He wants to see if his latest Long-PostVirus will crash that computer or not.

Well the GeForce3 card is essencial, although you really need a Pentium3 Processor; having one higher thant the specifications should be alright for testing.

Could you list exactly the system you have, please?

Heh, forgot I took it out of my sig...

OS: Windows XP (They both crash equally)
CPU: Intel Celeron 1.3 Ghrz (which is always bogged down by...something)
Ram: 512 MB (2x256MB Sticks)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128 MB (I honestly think the video chip in the XBox can outperform this thing...which reminds me, I gotta upgrade soon)
Sound: S.I.I.C. (Standard Integrated Intel Crap)
API's: DirectX 9.0c, .Net Framework

Like I said before, I honestly don't think my computer could do any more than the XBox can (heck, I'm lucky if I get decent framerates playing the doom 3 demo at the lowest settings).

Cheers,
Preston

unfortunately, the Celerons lack the SSE instruction enhancements; and the GeForceFX cards handle shaders completely different to the GeForce3.

while performance wise it probably isn't hugely different, problem lays with the fact of trying to get the actual hardware to make sure things work on that particuarly blend of hardware; rather than how fast.

also you wouldn't believe how much difference even 256MB Ram will make to a systeml. the computer i'm using at the moment is a downgrade from the 512MB PC133 i was using to 256MB PC2100, and the speed drop for loading times and ingame loading provides noticeable hangs and slowdowns.

annoyingly I have a Pentium2-400MHz / GF3 / 128MB Ram, which makes it just too slow and without SSE to perform how it should.
probably going to have to scowl shops tommorrow and pickup some 2nd hand bargin stuff.

Yeah, I remember when I switched from the original 128 to 512, noticed a huge difference.

I'll take that as a no then. Oh well.

Preston

I have something close to those specs at home.

Intel 2.0 GHz Pentium 4
256 RAM
NVidia GeForce 3
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0c
.NET 2.0

or

Intel 7xx (I think) MHz Pentium 3
(Not sure of the RAM either 128 or 256 (probably 256)
NVidia TNT 2
Windows 98/XP
DirectX 9.0c
.NET 2.0

I have a converted XBox controller, but my PC specs are nothing like that, and the .NET framework makes my skin crawl .

well i have the closest video card but i think my card sucks too much

i have-
-Pentium 4 1.5 GHz
-512 Ram(2*256)...if you want i could take one of the 256 sticks out and have 256 left
-GeForce 4 MX420
-Win XP
-Some built-in sound card

GF3 with a 650MHz athlon, 128mb pc100. That's the closest thing I got. If the pentium is essential, nvm I guess. Only intel chips i got is P133 and P2.8e

having DirectX9 and .NET 2.0 isn't essential, also having Windows 2000 shouldn't be a problem either; Currently I'm putting together a Windows 2000 LiveCD for beta testers to burn.

.GothOtaku your system specifications are the close provided you move the GF3 to the TNT system when testing, which is a 5minute task. If you could find out if that lower specs one has 128/256 and if it is on 1 or 2 stick that would be great.

.Phaelax although your system has an Athlon which will mean, it'll run alot quicker than it should and may actually cause processor problem.. you do have the GF3, which could lend valuable information to the tests. Graphical & Gameplay bugs are what will be needed to be sorted out.

.Van, heh you system is ridicously over powered iirc for the tests; but someone who has the official controller other than myself could be quite useful for testing out the control method. I was told I just needed something equivilant but you can't get anything similar on the PC.

.Peter_, unfortunately your system is WAAAY to powerful; and without any Hardware Shaders. Thanks for the offer though.

.All.. Thank you for your help, the offers are appreiciated
To those i've mentioned specifically, if you could sign-up over at Puff Interactive Forums and PM me, then I'll give you access to the Developer Area.
Everything will be explained in there of what is going on.

For everyone else, if you wish to know what this is all about; then check-out the forums as news will be released at the end of the month.

Hmmm. Interestingly similar setup to an Xbox. Thought the Xbox had less memory though? And the highest GF3 of course (supposed to be enhanced version of my one - erm... ti500 methinks).....

Cheers

Hmmm. After looking up XBox specs I came across some stuff about the ATI R500 and R520 (one of which is supposed to go into the XBox 2), which appears to be coming out in the next few months apparently. All web gossip of course, but if it can do 4 times the pixel performance of the X800 XT (which is what they say), then will be interesting. Whole new PC again of course, but very very powerful.

Cheers

Heh, yeah interestingly similar.. wonder why?

The Xenon (X-Box2) prototype system is:
• Dual Apple G5 PowerPC Processors
• 128-MB PC2600 DDR SDRAM
• ATI X900 (R520) graphics card
• Microsoft Windows XP (Developer Edition) 2005
• AC'97 5.1 Soundcard
• DirectX 9.0c / XNA 1.0 (Managed)
• .NET Framework 1.1 (Managed)
• XDK 2.0 for Visual Studio .NET 2003/2005

I'd love to get my hands on it, and hopefully I will. First things first however is to concentrate on my current Project.

First thing I thought too.

Raven: Unfortunatly, the Pentium 3 computer is a laptop so it's impossible to change the video cards.

DavidT, that could be due to the fact that they own a share in apple as far as I remember

Desktop: AMD Athlon XP2800+,GeForce FX5200 128MB, 1.25GB DDR RAM
Laptop: AMD Athlon 64M 3000+,Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB, 512MB DDR RAM

Didn't know that. I just remember the excitement when they thought the Xbox 2 could have a g5 in it.
