I am using anim8or and wings3D but i seem to be having problems.

i can texture spheres, cubes, plains and any other 3D object created in darkbasic with a normal bitmap,
using the standard load object, load image, texture object routine.

but when i make even a simple cube or sphere in anim8or, then export it as .3DS file, the texture does not um ... texture it!
i have experimented with "materials" and nothing has come of it.

i think i have missed the plot completely
Please any suggstions aobut another tool to use (milkshape?)
NB: i did search before posting this
thanks in advance

You must set the texture mapping coordinates (UV settings) in the modeler..or it won't texture in DB.
Also 3Ds is not the best format..try X

Im sorry, i have litterally no clue.
all i found was a button with "UV" written on it and that makes a little square appear and thats about it.

i cant export to .x
the only one supported by DBpro is .3ds in anim8or

of all the people that can texture an object, you were the first, thanks

get winconv3ds here..
http://www.3drad.com/links.htm
it converts 3ds to X

In anim8or or wings3d texture at your liking with any casual texture then use the texture object command to change it to whatever other texture in DB
I remember anim8or had a texturing tool..not sure about wings3d

If you are texturing from the modeler make sure that all textures go in the same folder where the model is or DB won't pick them up

I also suggest you to try this other modeler: Dele 3D..

Not sure if you can animate with that tho..

cheers

May i ask how exactly do you texture objects in anim8or?

i have clicked the materials button and made a color and then applied it to the object. then i saved it. then i exported it. then i used the approprite code to texture it:

load object "c:orange.3ds" ,1
load image "c:orange.bmp" ,1
texture object 1,1

i still cant get it.

please explain in detail

thanks

When you made your model, open up the material list and add a new one.

Press on the textures button, and on the three dots button ( ... ) next to the ambient texture input-field.

Press load texture and select your texture. Press ok and do the same for diffuse. (The texture should be in the list now, don't load it in again)

Now select your model and select the texture in the material list and hit apply.

Convert your model to a mesh if it's not a mesh. Now click on the button with the three dots to go into point/surface edit mode.

Click on the button with the triangle (surface mode) and select a surface. Press on the UV button and use your mouse to apply the texture.

left = rotate texture
middle / mouse wheel = scale texture
right = move texture

You can do this in any view.

When you're done, export it as a .3DS and use a .x converter. Load in your object but don't use the texture command. Just make sure the textures are in the same folder and they will show up.

Remember, you cannot use multiple textures and apply them to 1 object. They will show up properly in anim8or, but dbpro will kinda freak out and replace your textures with a single on.

I tried making a house a few months ago and textures the walls with a stone texture and the roof with wood. Dbpro made the whole house look as it was made out of stone.
