I'm currently working on a tool for drawing paths on textures
using a base texture, blendmap, and path texture. Basicly it draws
the path texture in areas you brighten on the blendmap. The blendmap
looks like a normal heightmap, in fact it is a heightmap, but used
for blending textures.

I have so far only tested it on a fairly low resolution texture:

Some of the features I will be adding:

*Path scaling - The ability to adjust the path texture scale, so the paths don't look all blured if low resolution

*Blend threshhold - Areas below the threshold(in terms of brightness)
don't affect the output texture

*Automatic edge - Adds an edge to areas between textures, preferably
smoothing the textures into eachother.

Creating snow is very easy, as for the path texture you can just use a blank(white) image:

This tool will be very usefull for people that want to do stuff with their terrain textures to make them better, such as adding snow/ice, puddles of water, paths, roads, etc. Although it would be easier to do it if the editing was done in real-time I'm not sure if rendering is yet fast enough. Rendering is fairly fast due to use of memblocks. It takes about 3 seconds to render a 512x512 image.

I will upload a demo(somehow without a site anymore ) when I think its ready

I need your comments; stuff you would like this to be able to do and stuff like that

(I edited your post, you got the link code wrong for the screenshot, corrected )

Looks promising. A bit low res at the moment though.

Thanks David. Well the reason it all looks terribly bad quality is because I haven't yet found any very high quality textures anywhere. Do you know where I might find some?

Anyway aside from that I'm quite proud of that snow I made
