Yes, tomorrow Nintendo DS comes out, and I was playing it in Gamestop, and it's quite good, the graphics are good and Metroid Prime First Hunt is definatly a nice demo to add to the package. People say it's hard using the stylus and that it's easier using the thumb strap that shall be packaged in, but I'd have to say using the stylus is quite easy, meaning that the thmub strap must make everything super easy! The demo, for those of you who haven't played it includes survival mode, morphball mode and a level which name I cannot recall at this moment. Also picto chat is neat, I was talking to the person beside me with it . I can't wait until I get it and I think Sony will want to make sure they can pack good games with PSP because DS comes packed in with a great game from the get go!

Is that what it's called now?

I have to say I can't wait. It looks great, and should be the perfect match between gameboy and a pda.

I know, I can't wait for it to come out! I'm going to resist getting it until Christmas. To celebrate, G4TechTV is making tomorrow its Nintendo DS day, when all shows will be all about the new DS. I'll be sure to watch that. For a while I have been getting my information from IGN. When I found the DS IGN site using Google, I saw loads of stuff I had never seen before about the system. I haven't gotten a chance to physically try the system, but it sounds awesome!

Yes, the PSP definately has better graphics, but I've never really liked Sony gaming. Right from the start with the first Playstation I didn't like or care about it.

Do bad in Europe it won't be out until 2005, I'm just glad I live in America. It's called Metroid Prime: Hunters, just the demos has first hunt added on. The controls are incredibly simple and you don't have to set south paw because if you're a righty it's like this:
L Trigger: Shoot
Up+Down: Forward+Backward
R+L: Strafe R and L
Turning is used via the stylus, and you tap a button to shift into the morph ball. Also double tapping with the stylus causes you to jump.
Southpaw:
R Trigger: Shoot
Y+B: Forward and Backwards
X+A: Strafing

Yep and FF 3 comes out for it. And with mario kart coming out for it and how you can connect to wide area networks to play with others its even cooler.

??? WTF mate?

Even with the thumbstrap those configs are flawed. I want to be able to use the u/d/l/r buttons for movement and the right trigger for shooting, leaving my left thumb to handle just turning and aiming.

It may sound complex but it's quite simple. You just have to play it. You'll see it is quite simple.

Both are, that's why I'll be getting both of them. I think DS will be more of a gaming device and PSP will be more of a media device.

Am I the only one here who is not buying either of them? I mean, if I want something with the functionality of a PDA and the potential strength of an old laptop with a custom graphics chip, I'll stick with the laptop, no matter what games come out for em (which will always be beaten by the likes of PC Halo, HL2, StarWars: Battlefront, etc).

Cheers,
Preston

Heh, they said that about the Game Gear, too, and look where it ended up!

I'm not too big on this whole dual-screen thing. If they had ditched the bottom screen and make the top one bigger, I'd be more than happy. But it seems Nintendo is going to use the second screen in some interesting ways, so I'm OK with it.

I'm still not going to get when it comes out tomorrow, but I might when the price drops, or when enough games are out for it.

I'm waiting till christmas myself as I've spent lots of money recently, but I will be getting one. I don't want the functinoalty of a PDA, if I did I'd probably have bought one, I want an enjoyable 3D portable. And that is what the DS is, and most likely the PSP.

People, People, please... there are multiple control schemes for MP:FH.

I was playing it in BestBuy about a week ago... nice stuff. PictoChat was awesome, me and some other people were leaving messages for eachother

I look forward to a shooter game that utilizes the full multiplayer capabilities of the DS. The MP:FH demo should suffice til the whole game comes out...

Prove it. If you really want to let people know you think PSP is greater than the DS, you have to tell us why.

I have a DS & PSP on pre-order.. they're both pretty cheap.
They're very differently aimed machines though; and people who want to argue about them should remember this.

The PSP is trying to take over the GBA market; something Sony believe the DS is suppose to do. Let's just hope thier mistake doesn't hit them where it really hurts, thier wallet.

Nintendos' 5th Generaion is about to be unveiled in a short 6months time, I wonder if anyone at Sony realised that the Nintendo DS does not bare the mark 'GameBoy'

Heh, Raven, you're actually correct for once!

Quote: "I wonder if anyone at Sony realised that the Nintendo DS does not bare the mark 'GameBoy'"

...And I wonder why everyone who I know who claims to be a "hardcore gamer" doesn't realize this either.

Heres a short convo I had with someone in school the other day:

Them (to someone else): Have you seen the GameBoy DS? It's graphics arent as good as the PSP, but it's dual screens make for an awesome new type of gameplay.
Me: It's not a Gameboy. It's not the successor to the GBA.
Them: (starts flipping out and saying I don't know about gaming and handhelds)

...Morons.[b]

Yes

I think that the new GameBoy with blow PSP out of the water. It don't expect it to be anything less than the PSP, but this with enough battery power to watch a full football match!

Sony may try and create a full system that plays every media format under the sun, but the truth is if people want to watch a film they'd watch it on a TV. A survey was done and hardly anybody wanted portable media players because they're just too inconvenient.

Nintendo stick to what would be the most practical and fun usage of the system - a games console.

I can't prove it because it's a biased opinion. I looked at the pros/cons of both systems and decided that PSP is the better choice for ME

And that's why the regular GameCube had no support for CDS or DVDS! Nintendo doesn't care about other forms of media, it cares about what it's beend doing for so long, Video Games, DS is focused at games at not media and that is a clear difference between DS and PSP, their markets, which has been stated before.

Zero Blitz:
Your story reminds of a time where I was in Gamestop purchasing a GBA Classic NES Series game, the guy said:
Quote: "Would you like to perorder the new Gameboy DS?"

I said not yet, and also DS is not the succesor to GBA.
He said:
Quote: "Well obviously you don't know much about gaming, because it is!"

I then told him that it wasn't even called Gameboy DS and that it was just Nintendo DS and he just walked away.

If you waited for the SP it was worth it. I got plenty of GBA games for roadtrips and long flights,
Golden Sun
Mario & Luigi
Mario Advance
Sonic Advance
Zelda
Metroid
Advance Wars

Wouldn't be able to play any of them without the backlit screen though.

Yeah, the PSP is just the same type of gameplay, while the DS focuses on a whole new kind of way to play games. That's what I think really stands out about the DS. And about the PSP's ability to play videos and music, I guess it does help them, seeing as the most popular "game" on GameStats (An IGN site) for PSP is a video.

Yeah, but really speaking your 31 and have the name Nemo
j|k .. it is a pretty sweet film, Disney have it on soon actually; looking forward to this Christmas on Disney, they already showed Treasure Planet last Sunday, which is a stonkin' Disney update on the original Treasure Island
But then i'm a sucker for anything space and pirate related, adding the two heh just makes it the perfect film in my eyes heh

my DS arrived today, (gotta love imports) .. got some cool games with it too.. just wish i had time to play on it next week is essential to finish a project. (DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!)
After that though i'll be letting loose on a Zelda marathon.

Heh, got Mirad Sword or something for the GBA too... don't know what it's title actually is cause I saw 'new Zelda' on Game and bought it; and my bro seemed to get the package first. So he's locked himself in his room and all i can hear are Zelda tunes lol

Zelda the Minish Cap? I know that's the title in the US, don't know if it will be the same in other countries, but I know that's the Japanese Title too. Did you get Feel the Magic? Are the mini games any good in that if you did?

LOL Raven. It’s actually from captain nemo in the book 20000 leagues under the sea but I did enjoy finding nemo immensely. Especially the whale talking. :0)

My thumbs still hurt from my last zelda marathon (wind waker). Will be investing in some form of padding (and some potent coffee) before the next cube version comes out.
