I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not MODS. move it and let me know where it is.

I,m interested in setting up a website where DB users can sell the games they make. I know a lot of you have sites and sell from your own sites, this would be another outlet for your products. I would like to make a little on this also, example if you want $20.00 I would sell for $25.00 keep $5.00 and send you $20.00 or something along those lines. I will work this out when I get to that point. This is just an idea now and still in the planning stage

I will also have on this site a free section if you don't want to sell your product. I also want 3D models, textures, tutorials etc... I will also have products such as video cards, sound cards cameras ,software and what ever else I can get related to the game programming, programming, 3D and video community. I'm hooked up with a couple of ditributors where I can get products.

I would like to have a forum on the site and some really good DB tutorials, not the ones that are already out there but some fresh new ones. If anyone would like to do some tuts. I can't pay you for them but I can give you big kudos and credit for doing them.

This site would have a lot to do with DB but I also want to have C++, VB, Ligktwave, SMax, Milkshape, Canvas stuff or any other programs you work in.

I see this as a one stop shop for people interested in this field of graphics, programming, game programming, video photg. etc... to pick up low cost and free products, games, information, tuts.

I can do all my own web design and programming but any input products, tuts. advice any one wishes to offer will be welcome

Hi,

Sounds like a good idea. Might want to post it in the general talk forum though.

It's worth checking the Acceptabel Use Policy, just to check if you're breaking any niggly advertisement rule (I doubt it though).

In the advice category, besides hosting files and handling the transations, were you planning to any advertising, submitting your web site to various search engines, joining game dev web rings, posting on newsgroups and the other usual tactics for increasing exposure and traffic to your web store?

Anyone can set up a PayPal button, what do you bring to the table besides that? Are you also interested in running shops for people on such sites as Nuclear Glory, Turbo Squid, EBay, or Amazon?

If you're going to be a salesman, how much work are you going to do to sell products. If you can double someone's volume or free them from the tedium of setting all that stuff up, your service might be worth investing in.

Yes, I do know how to promote web sites and it is not easy to get a large volume of traffic. It takes a lot of time to work a site up to the level of popularity you are talking about and it will not get that way over night. There are many different ways to get a site popular and get a high volume of traffic and I don't know them all it takes a lot of learning, trying different methods and trial and error and promotion from people in communities like this who have been to the site and like it.

I built a site for my parents wedding chapel business, its been up for 5 years and today 90% of the business they get comes from that site.

I do have an ebay account and I'm interested in selling that way also. I don't know to much about turbo squid or nucular glory or amazon for that matter. I know amazon is huge and I don't know if I can produce enough volume to get in with amazon but now that you brought it up I will be looking into it. Anything to get products out and make sales THANKS

To sell games just get a PayPal Business account - the percentage they take is much smaller and they have reliable worldwide used servers. I would trust them more, and PayPal lets you add a "Buy Now" button on your web pages.

I also have a blog on how to make a game engine

Zircher has a valid point. I'm sure you have the expertise to do this, but you do need a selling point. There are a lot of sites that already do this, I think you need to add value with something else.

Please don't take this as a criticism, it's a suggestion. In the UK, when you apply for a business account, one of the first questions is "What is your unique selling point?". If you have a USP, you separate yourself from everybody else.

How about a technology FAQ, for example? Every game you sell is complimented with a document outlining the tools and methods used to create it. You then have the attention of would-be game makers, potential for affiliate revenue, and a reason to download the game.

I thought that would go with out saying! If a game is made with DB then the customer would know that. I may have a section for just DB games and talk a little about programming with the language and the language its self, same for C++ and VB, lightwave, SMax, Milkshape what ever I have. Like I said this is still in the planning stage and I'm looking for input ideas and concepts to put into this site.

The reason I posted on this forum is I like DB and have been around for 4 years. I'm not any good with it because I just have to many other things going on. 3D graphics, programming web site building and a full time job. I posted here to test the waters and get some ideas for features on this site and to see if people from a gamming community would like to sell games from it. I may not even do it. If I spend weeks or months putting together a good site and no one uses it then I just wasted all that time. I don't think that will be the case, but here I'm just testing the idea out and trying to get some ideas.

Zircher said it may be worth investing in and doubling someones volume.
First off I'm not looking for any money from anyone to help me get this going. I will not charge a fee to put your products up. I would like to make a little from the sale and I will either come up with something that will cover everyone or I may work one on one with everyone. Your games would not be the only products I have on this site. Like I said I would like products from C++ and VB programmers and 3D artists and I will also be selling some hardware and software packages.

As to the question about doubling someones volume I would love to make that happen for anyone but I can't gaurentee that. I can put your program up and promote the site to the best of my ability and see what happens. If your game sells great if it does not then we have to figure out why and fix it!

I'm not going to pick and choose what games I put up. If you want to sell on my site great if not thats fine to but I'm not going to play every game to see if its good enough to put up. Thats not my place, if you think your product is good enough to sell then you got to do what you got to do, right! If its up for six months and only sells 2 times I may ask you what you want to do but I am not going to start blowing people off because your products are not selling.

As for what else I'm bringing here the things you talked about in the above posts have been thought about.

I want to make this an outstanding popular site that users would come to to get game products hardware, software, tutorials, 3D objects, textures, information, tips etc. A forum would be a must!

I'm really open to suggestions on features to put on the site products even site design if you want but I will be doing all the work. This is my thing and I may or may not use any of it and you are all busy with your own lives and projects and I'm not really looking for partners or anything just ideas!!!

I just finished a game not too long ago (I keep meaning to take screen shots and posting them) and I'd like to sell it, even though I doubt I'd make a fortune. It's just a matter of pride since it is my first and it took about fourteen months of work and also to let a certain ex know that I did what I set out to do. Now I'm on the drawing board for game two.

I don't have too many ideas. I've never done any marketing although I've been a VP for an IT company in the past but it was in the technical side of things. I think I'd suggest making a page that is graphically pleasing and still fast in loading. You'd be surprised at how often I'd wait on a web page (using DSL no less) and if it didn't come up in about thirty seconds or less, I'd cancel and go back and search some more. I also agree with PayPal. I think a lot of people use it.

If you get this up and running, let me know. I'm ready now.

A website like this would be sweet! Open the market and stuff!

the only problem would be consistantly getting the traffic in! More web hits, more money for you and me! He He He!

Can everyone use the one in the General Discussion forum - no point in having two exactly the same posts.
