That book was very helpful for when I first started programming with DarkBASIC, even though I do have pro version. If you are new to programming in general I stronly suggest getting it. But, you can get a new or used version from amazon.com at about half the price. Hopefully TGC doesn't mind me saying this, but I got my copy from amazon for about 35 bucks.

Neat features of the book:
Full source to all examples(On CD)
Demos of both DBP and DBC
Demos of PaintShopPro7, Anim8tor(full version), and more
source is in both DBP and DBC
Good walkthrough guide

Drawbacks:
not to much information on specifically DBP(particles)
no information from updates, plugins, etc
if you are a good programmer than you might only learn a few things.

you're better off getting a book covering programming logic (not code)

I bought the book but I didn't find it useful at all

But that is just me - the reason I didn't find it useful is because I have been programming in BASIC since I got a BBC Micro in 1984.

If you are a complete beginner to BASIC programming I would say that it is an excellent choice and I would most definately recommend it.
