i'm currently in yr 12 at college in the UK. to those outside the UK this basically means i have the rest of this academic year to go, and then another whole year and then i have my gap year (year off to do what i want before going to university).

Most people use this time to do a yr's skiing or a yrs work experience abroad or a yrs in the forces etc. for my yr i plan for me and a few friends to do a road trip around the world. Although it seems definate that i'll be able to do so, i'll still need ways to cut costs.

what im basically asking is a list of people who live outside the UK who would be happy to feed and water a group of travellers for just 1 stop on this grand tour, and maybe if we like your country enough you can show us around some local sites of interest etc.

i know this forum has a global community, so those who want to become a pitstop for a random day in 2 yrs time please leave you city and country below and i can take it into account whilest planning the route.

naturally, i need to plan in ahead, so i'm starting now.

6th form college- basically the last 2 yrs of education before people go off and do their own thing

benjamin- ill be going through france to pick up the camper van off my dad that i'd be driving (cos it has right hand drive you see) and since my dad lives in biarritz. i'll also try to use the opertunity to say hello to my french relatives who i rarely meet and in some cases have never met.

osirus- yes, well kinda... all we're doing is a tour of the world in a vw camper, and ask as fellow darkbasic doer's that we get fed *begins feeling kind of cheeky*

ok, another favour- say what things in your country there are to visit...

Nursery = Kindergarden (3-5)
Infants = Pre-School (5-7)
Juniors = Junior/Middle High (7-11)
Secondary = High-School (11-15)
GCSE = High-School (15-16)
6th Form = High-School (17-18) *Optional* (A-Level)

College = Community College (16+) (Job Training / GCSE / A-Level)
University = College (18+) (Degrees)

While we have SATs they are administered for seeding purposes.
Once when your 11yrs and again when your 15yrs, it generally isn't the same big deal over here.

Further more Universities are not like Colleges, in the fact that generally speaking you do not get a scholarship just for being particularly good at Arts/Sports/Etc.. usually it is because you require it as you cannot afford to goto Uni, but your marks have earnt you a placement.

Getting into a University generally means making sure the grads on your A-Levels are as high as possible. As you can only take 3-5, this makes it a pain trying to get into certain Universities.

This said, once your 16 and doing A-Levels, everything is elective. So you don't have to be stuck doing things you don't want to, effectively what you do at A-Level sets you on the path for your degrees. Each time you choose your specialising your subject further.. Generally speaking you can't really get high grades in English, Physics and Geography and expect to be allowed onto a Mathematics Degree.

The system we use isn't crazy or weird, remember this is effectively the same system in use for centuries; however the americans have chosen to alter thier original education system is up-to them.

Depends. You usually either go to university or college which is part time usually and more vocationally orientated.

Infant School 5-7
Junior School 7-11
Senior School 11-16
Sixth Form 16-18
University 18+

Just to confuse matters some universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, London) have colleges inside them.

Hey, depending on where I'm living at the time, and if it's ok with the Old's ( Parents ) if I'm still at home, then when you swing by north of Sydney, drop in

Jess.

So not many people stay with parents/relatives that age in the UK? That's pretty sad .

Well anyways, if you drop by the New Hampshire area, I'd be glad to show you the sights. Unfortunatly our primary landmark collapsed in on itself a few years back so the main attraction is all the snow

You might be able to stay a night or two, if I pass you off as a foreign exchange student >_>

Oh and you'd have to stay in my sister's room (she is away at her Uni. most of the time anyway)

Froog, if you stop by Jimmy you'll definately want to stop by my place , it's about 100 or so miles from Jimmy .

I could probably house you for a night or 2.

But sadly, I can't (or don't want to) bathe you .

If you stop at jimmys, if i'm still in Utah at the time, I could stop over for a few... no bathing from me either though.

You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. He looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't **** around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that god was having trouble with.

my high school was called a secondary college, it's just different tertiary names for the things, and the forms went out a while ago, like form 3 was year 9 to me. etc.

I could recommend stopping in Cyprus it is full of culture and has a lot of ancient relics and ruins everywhere ... they build new ones almost daily

Sadly, I can't put you up because I am moving to England in two weeks time ... sorry

pfft- england- why

also i dont think half of cyprus is safe for now, with the name Hussein on the passport everyone might think i'm turkish (turkish people even say i look like one of them which is why they didnt try to sell me anything until my pail-skinned mom appeared)

edit- also tying to stay away from tourists spots- ok, visit tourist spots but not actually stay there... food'd be more expensive there etc...

Wise. You pay nightmare prices for fast food with a paint job. Note that the much overrated resteraunt at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle is no different !

unless something has changed within the last few days, hover cars don't exist.. nor are those boat/car vehicles commonly available... and I don't think they built the trans-atlantic bridge/tunnel yet

Unless your uncle's van turns into a boat.. you're in a load of trouble trying to drive it to the North America/Central/South America region and Australia, and many other places

i'm pretty sure i've heard of ferries from Canada to Greenland, and i know for a fact theres ferries linking greenland to icelend and iceland to scandinavia and scotland- although i'll probably go through scandinavia in the grand planning of things.

You may not want to stop near me.. Absolutely nothing exciting in my city, maybe noorth of my city, far north, as in the whole state worths north, something interesting.. otherwise, the most exciting thing my old city has experienced is a Costco being build accross the high way from my house.
