If it's going to be your primary monitor and used for games, check the refresh rates before spending. It'll never match that of a decent CRT, but the last thing you want is your games bluring.

Make sure your getting what you pay for - don't buy it if your not happy with the display. TFT's have dropped substantially in both price and quality recently. Personally I'd wait - that's a TFT with speakers for £150, so in a few months there'll be a lot more choice.

TFT's come highly recommended though, they're far kinder on your eyes, and although they're not ideal for gaming, I have no complaints - the extra pixel sharpness can help the snipers amongst us .

I would also suggest getting a monitor with a DVI connector rather than DSUB, if your graphics card has DVI connector. Much better quality. Also, speakers in TFT's are pretty small and a bit tinny sounding. I have speakers in my TFT but have them turned off and use a big subwoofer based thing instead.

Out of curiosity, why aren't they ideal for gaming? Mine works great for it. Well accept for that annoying, always green pixel in the upper right

The speakers are indeed tinny. Only so much you can do with that space I guess . But I've got my nice 5.1 set so that's okay.

Refresh rates, supposedly. But I don't notice any big difference (then again, I don't do much PC gaming ).

Basically a CRC monitor uses analogue technology and refresh faster, TFT's use digital technology but refresh slower. The extra sharpness with TFT's makes motion slightly strobing - like with CRC's things blend smoothly, but with TFT's it does'nt blur in the same way. For example, a white dot moving on a CRC would look like it had a trail - but on a TFT the blurring is left pretty much to your own eyes, which don't update very quickly at all.

If 'they' had convincing motion blur in games, they could run at 25fps and it'd look smooth as silk on any display.

Hmmm... I've noticed that, but always preffered TFT monitors. The slight blur/drag effect really, really annoys me. Guess it's just me though, and I do have a TFT with a decent refresh rate so naturally it's less of a problem.

As the manufacturer is given as Arianet what is the policy on dead pixels?

It is a standard class 2 panel, meaning it must have more than 3 dead pixels, or 5 dead subpixels to be classed as faulty.

bah.. couldnt live with that.. i hate dead pixels... i'd prefer to pay a bit extra and have it like my dads where if even one pixel goes wrong you can send it back

Funny, I've never noticed 3-5 dead pixels. I suppose hiding them is policy though . The only 'dead' one I notice is bright green
