k
so ... why DarkSDK is called DarkSDK instead of DarkGDK ...
I know game is a software ... but softwares aren't always games

It should be better to call it DarkGDK

You´ve got a point Freddix. Maybe because SDK is a standared term that everyone uses and this is TGC´s own SDK. Though it would be more logical to call it a GDK.

It is titled correctly IMO.

Think about it, a game can also be called "game software"

The product is called: Dark Game Software Development Kit

Whats wrong with that?

Or is it you people just want something else to bitch about.

Honestly I wish people would read posts.

@Menmonix .. Why people never read entirely what I say !!!

Explaining :
An editor isn't a game, it's a software
A game maker isn't a game, it's a software
a music tool isn't a game, it's a software
a game is a software .
so :
Quote: "
game is a software ... but softwares aren't always games
"

these words resume all
The real correct name should be :
Dark Game Development Kit !
Can you make a software you can sell ??? no ! ( even with the shareware version )
Can you make a game you can sell ??? yes !

so Game development kit is the correct name !
I don't criticize the quality of package but the name !!!!
We must call a cat, a "cat" ! and not something else !

you call say what you want the reality is here ... don't call something software if you are not allowed to create "various kind" of software, only 1 of 10000 !

I'm not moaning. I'm just saying that it's an odd name (In my opinion), but I don't really care.

I wonder how long it will be before everybody stops calling it DarkSDK and uses the 'game' bit as well

@Freddix and Anime Blood.

I see your points.

The reason the name has been adopted is because its used for making "game software" but the term SDK is a commonly used term. If you mention to most software developers the term SDK they know that whatever it is, is used for making software of some kind.
I see your point but what does it matter. There is nothing wrong with the name IMHO.

mods lock this, its going nowhere

@menmonix : I love people that ask to close their mouth because they have a different way of thinking ... it's what you've just done ... why should moderators close that post ??? [ It's ironic ! ]

I think that it should be sympathic to see the TGC point of view about this, after they've read the "thinking about naming a software". I never wanted to tell something wrong, simply telling my opinion, just like you !
So , do not continue to say "lock this" because it can be considered negatively ... ... I agree for your opinion ... but I like to use term in a more "pure" way ( in french we say : "Puriste" ) and like I said, if human created so many various words ... it's not for use one to tell the other or everyone can use everything to say what they want and all will simply become ... chaos

How can people find their ways if we use wrong words ?

Heh, Perhaps I shouldnt have said lock this.

I agree with you guys that the name could be misleading. DGSDK is better than simply DSDK. Anyway, it matters not.

Not always... there are board games, cards games, word games...

Quote: "but softwares aren't always games "

Indeed.

So the most precise title is "Dark Game Software Development Kit"

I thought that was the currently adopted title?
Though as it is an Engine, I'd be inclined to agree that Game Development Kit (GDK) would make more sense.

Not that it really matters as this seems like one of the most stupid arguments ever. After all we don't get to name things

I agree with Mnemonix,
if it wouldn't have "SDK" in its title then I am not sure if
I would be on these boards right now.
(GDK sounds more like a stand-alone application to create games and not like a ... well, a SDK *g*)
