How much of this rts have you completed?? You will need some sort of basic infrastructure of your rts engine in order for some good ai to be written. For example how you select and move units, build structures and units, collect resources etc these will need to be done before any ai can be made.

The admiral is right, you need to complete the basic engine before you can add AI. This is so that when you create the AI, you actually have something for it to work with.

When you create AI for an RTS, you basically make it think like you do. First of all, you need to create a data collection system so that the computer knows as much as possible about the playing field. It can then use this information to build units in the correct spots, defend from attacks, and find safe retreat points. This is a very brief overview...I once wrote up a whole bunch for someone in a thread, I will try to find it...

Here are some links to RTS AI threads:

Dang, can't find any others...

Good Luck with your game

well I suppose it depends on how advanced you want your ai to be you could do what the old doom programmers used to do which is just have the enemy attack in line of site or do random movements in a if and loop but you would have to set up your own perameters and conditions for it
