I need to get a new CPU, mobo and RAM (maybe PSU if needs be) for an old computer that has stopped working. I do not want to go for high specs at all, the specs for the parts I have chosen is fine.

Can someone just check for me that it is all compatible before I buy them?

CPU:

Cooler:

Motherboard:

RAM:

Cheers
ps., will the board be ok if the pc is an ATX? (just the PSU goes beside the board when looking at it from the back. ie, it's on the right hand side of the case, not the top. I don't want to get a full board if the CPU is going to fail on the PSU.) Also, will the board need that small 4 pin plug for power from the PSU as well as the standard 20 pin?

no, thats for high spec intel processors

As for the RAM, i would suggest getting this instead:

its only a pound or so more, but it is the same fsb as the CPU and mobo, to the PC would run more effeciently because all the components would be running at their designed speed (with the RAM you currently plan to get, the CPU and mobo would be running below their designed speed)

Anyway thanks for advice on the RAM

Really, your 1700 uses the 4 pin? my 2600 doesn't. Maybe its just the mobo, because all the amd setups i've ever seen don't use it

yeh, the 2x2 pin plug is used as well as the 10x2. I thought it was the 6 pin that pentiums used anyway

my amd athlon x3200 uses the 4 pin. maybe its more to do with how the motherboard it made. if the motherboard uses the 4 pin then u need a 4pin plug to make the CPU work ^_^

i presume u mean the 4 pin socket that the psu plug goes into, if so then yes. it should be quite near to the actual CPU socket.

This is just upgrading an old pc (not my main one - thats an upgrade costing about £300 ). About £90 for board, ram, cpu, HSF and postage.

hmm, that board has the audio connectors horizontally rather than vertically, and the case has them vertically. Will the board come with the needed plate or not?

low budget boards often don`t, if you have any sort of skill with tools you can cut a new one from an old biscuit tin or something with scissors (old ones....use mums best ones and you might be grounded for a year or so) and drill holes for the connector stud thingys, just be carefull when you do it, raw cut tin is SHARP and treacherous...wear gloves if possible.

often the backplate comes with the case, in the case of my AMD machine I just modified the old plate since the new board had more connectors than the old one and I needed the existing cutouts plus some more above them, for lower spec machines you could just leave out the plate anyway, cooling isn`t so critical and the plates primary function is to stop air going in where it shouldn`t, it`s secondary job is to provide screening for the connectors, but I didn`t notice any problems when I used a plastic (non conducting) plate (I was fresh out of biscuit tins )

Mentor.

PC1: P4 3ghz, 1gig mem, 3x160gig hd`s, Radeon 9800pro w cooler (3rd gfx card), 6 way speakers.
PC2: AMD 2ghz, 512mb ram, FX5200 ultra, 16 bit SB.
Mini ATX cases suck.
