I am in the process of searching for new computer parts (mobo, cpu, ram and graphics card).

For the CPU I have 3 choices - AMD 32 bit, AMD 64 bit, P4. I know if I go with 32 bit AMD I am limited in speed (3200+ at the most), if I go for 64 bit there may be compatibility issues. For instance, dark basic pro (runs fine on standard Windows XP on a 64bit CPU, but it does not run on Windows XP64 bit with a 64 bit CPU due to emulation). If I go for P4 though, I will get faster speeds, but it will cost more and may not be as good.

What do you people suggest I go for?

I'm and AMD fanboy, so go with AMD.
I recommend: Asus nForce 4 premium mobo with athlon 64 3500
of course if your budget is limited choose an abit mobo with sempron 3100 and overclock it - only £200

yeh, but then what happens about Dark Basic Pro? That wont run on a 64bit OS. Using a 32bit OS wouldnt make full use of the 64bit either...

i'd just use 32 bit windows as athlon 64s are damn fast in 32 bit mode. if you get an athlon 64 you'll be futre proofed.
if you really want to use win 64 now have 2 hard drives; one just for win 32 and dbpro
or just get a sempron

you don't need two hdds to dual boot just two partitions.
