Greetings one and all,

Here today, I present a very early peek into Dark Eden, which foolishly dreams of one day becoming a playable Scifi/Fantasy multiplayer FPS of respectable quality.

As it stands right now, the engine runs (imagine that ) and provides the following features
Movement:
Strafing
Jumping
Crouching
Working mouselook
Player:
Inventory with switchable weapons
Stamina system
Weapons:
Weapon-specific bullet code
Cone of Fire (again, weapon specific)
Zoom
Recoil
World
Randomly generated world featuring sky, ground, trees, boulders, and grass(it sways!)

To see (most of it) for yourself, here are some screenshots (please forgive the comments, couldn't help myself):
<a href=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/darkedendev/screenshot1.jpg>Shot 1</a>
<a href=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/darkedendev/screenshot2.jpg>Shot 2</a>
<a href=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/darkedendev/screenshot3.jpg>Shot 3</a>
<a href=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/darkedendev/screenshot4.jpg>Shot 4</a>

Please note that all the models/textures are only placeholders, so please don't flame me for their less than stellar appearance.

There is still a world of things to be done, such as:
Collision (that actually works for a change)
Indoor environment coding
A level creator
Respectable looking (and sounding) media
All things AI
Multiplayer Coding
Class/Species system
Gui
A million other obscure but infinitely important things....*sigh*

Tell me what ya think

Peace,
-Saint Pheonix

Actually, I have 3ds max 6, just haven't started modeling weapons. This is mostly due to the fact that we (my roomate & I) haven't finalized the graphic style the game will have, much less weapon designs. Btw, thanks for the offer on the gun models. I took a peek at them, thought they looked pretty good for low poly models, but again from where the game design stands right now, they arent quite what we need.

Thanks for the code Lucas, and yes, it is a bit dark (trying to shy away from the neon/technicolor look). Once we start making actual levels and the associated media (skyboxes, etc) it probably will lighten significantly. Again this is very early in the development.

Today's experiment, Skyboxes (Dum Dum Dum!!!)

Actually I think it really added to the atmosphere (no pun intended) of the level, while simultaneuosly taking care of the whole darkness thing. Tell me what you guys think.

Very nice work there, reminds me of a game I played called Codename: Outbreak... not sure why it reminds me of that... but it does.

Nice little atmosphere, but it looks too low-poly. Anything you can do to spruce it up, perhaps?

Edit: Blearg.

Hopefully adding actual models of trees & such will fix the whole low poly thing (always better than primitives ) Currently working on a map editor (no more random levels, w00t!) I really wish Lee & gang hadn't broke the f*&#in' 3ds importer, 'cause i've got some half decent models in the works

....feh

BTW the furries are coming....we just haven't decided whether to do full antrho furries, or digigrade (i'm partial to the latter)

We're planning on around 7 species to choose from, both male and female. A little something for everyone.

You know those comments you have in your screenshots? Those would make some pretty interesting messages to give for achievements. Eg: You frag someone with a grenade and it would say "Grenadalicious!".

Merry Christmas all,

I just saw the screenies for mercs 2 and, well...damn...
It makes this look like stone knives and bear skins...sigh.

btw does anyone know what terrain plugins he is using? I've tinkered with the built in commands, but they left me distinctly non-plussed. I don't really mind using matrices, but i think for the sanity of my teammate/map-maker it would be really handy to use height maps.

Anywho, I'm off on break for the next little bit, so i'm not sure what progress there will be on the game.

Peace

He uses Advanced Terrain Plugin. Theres an update for it somewhere but I dont know where to get the full package from. BTW I like the ground texture. It looks really realistic! Where did you get them from? Or did you make 'em?

All the textures (minus the skybox of course) i did in about five minutes each in PSP8. For the most part they're all placeholders until i sit down and actually dedicate some effort to them...but that's a ways down the road.
