This was my first full project and I was trying desperately to solve this one myself.

I know this has something to do with my lack of understanding of if statments but can't figure out what.

It would be great if someone could explain why the X and the O don't always follow each other. I've added all the code

Your problem is in the way you are checking for your x,y and mouse click, because it's in a 'for next' loop, it does it many times in one button click, and that it can't be seen by us.

If other's see otherwise then I stand corrected.

You were right, I've now seperated the switching of players to its own little if statment.
