A couple of questions about matrix normals and smoothing....

1) Do I use matrix normals to smooth a matrix? (just to confirm this...)

2) Can a 3d object traverse a smoothed matrix properly?

3) If my entire level is made up of a few matrices, would smoothing them cause too great a slowdown?

4) How do I actually smooth a matrix? lol

Thanks peoples

-?
Huh?

I didn't even know that matrixes could be smoothed...

Where did you see somebody smooth a matrix anyway?
(If it's possible, I wanna know!)

EDIT: Is that one of the new features in the most recent patch? I'm just using the original DBPro from the disk...

I think it should be possible with the unpatched version

take a look at this http://www.ive-3.com/demos/ive3shot1.jpg

taken from the following thread
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=44673&b=1

I thinks that's a smoothed matrix, or one thats had normals applied to it..?

Smoothed matrices are also used in some of the tutorials in the DBP help files I think, although I cannot figure out how to get them to work...

Thats an advanced landscape. I think.

But matrices can be smoothed. And its got nothing to do with normals. Althought normals do make them look better as they control how the matrix is lit.

I have a function in the codebase for smoothing matrices.
#edit, and here is the link.

Thanks ReD_eYe, that smoothing function is great

Could you explain advanced landscapes, normals and how to use them please?

The advanced terrain plugin for DBPro allows you to have really nice, heightmap based landscapes without all the fuss of writing your own functions to do it.

There's a sticky at the top of this board I think.

Get 15 new commands, all the date / time commands left out of DBPro for free!
DOWNLOAD PLUGINS HERE: http://www.davidtattersall.me.uk/ and select "DarkBasic"
