I had a spare 30 mins so I had a go at designing my web site for what seems to be the 4th time in a year.

I've gone for the art-deco design this season

I might be able to settle with this one

Okay not really art deco - but modern arty.

All the plain colour and the banner image give it a modern look (I think anyway).

It works nicely and isn't offensive to my eyes. But it seems to have something missing... can't quite put my finger on it. I think there's just too much blue empty space.

Yeah - perhaps a nice mosaicy blue gradient at the bottom of the blue bars?

I used Cartography Shop - a brick textured cube with a light and a chain model

I'm not quite sure about the new design. It is good and more stylish than the previous look, but I have a nagging feeling that I prefered the old one.

The large bar at the top of the screen means that you have to scroll down further to access the content, and the orange-on-blue text is not as easy to read as white on black.

Perhaps its because I'm far more picky about functionality than style (which would explain the bare-bones look of my own sites). Ah well, each to his own. Like the "funny stuff" images though

DON'T ADD ANYTHING TO IT!
Simple looks awsome.
Just a thought, what would the banner on top look like in icy blue shades?

You've already had my input

I started redesigning my website last week, log-in works though so I'm going to continue (http://pulse.dbspot.com/Xenon)

There are serious flaws there so don't start looking (e.g. at the name )

Thanks for the feedback. You may be wondering why I changed from that super old site - this is why:

- The content area was too thin
- The site overall wasn't wide enough across the top to fit in enough navigation buttons
- Side sidebar didn't really have anything useful

you may say "well why not change it!?" and the answer to that is "it isn't my design". The design is actually from SimpleBits.com - the owner of the sites does give his permission for people to use his CSS, but nevertheless people email me saying how I've 2stolen his design". So I changed it

So, yes, the old site was amazing - but it also wasn't mine. It was only meant to be a filler for a few months until I came back with my own.

Somebody who understands j/k I had the same thoughts about the blue - I might make the banner change depending on which area of the site you're in.

Megaton - what's happened to your web site? I seem to remember that being quite good too.
