I wanted to create something with the CD that came with the "Beginner's Guide to DarkBASIC Game Programming".

Is it possible? I wanted to create something like the demos on the CD. Can I or do I need to get the full version of BarkBASIC? I would at least like to create a simple moveable object that I can move with the keyboard.

It's possible.

The book comes with a 30 day trial of both DBC and Pro. They'll export executables and all that good stuff as if they were purchased, until the trial runs out. The book will lead you through the basics of programming, to DarkBasic-specific knowledge, and you will eventually get to make a rather large game.

Hmmm...

I that in the trial, the media browser doesn't work. Every time I click it, it says, "COULD NOT FIND MEDIA FOLDER! TRY INSERTING CD OR RE-INSTALLING!"

Isn't that where I can pull out 2d/3d model, sound files, etc. from other programs that are created from scratch?

If thats the case, then how is it possible to make a game without using the media browser? Sorry if I sound dumb because I am a complete newbie and when I say newbie, I have never done any programing at all. I am as green as they can get.

I have a lot to learn...

Nevermind, I just figured out that I can. This is awesome. I have been running some basic code snippets from the boards and its amazing.

I fear that by the time my trial ends, I won't be able to create a basic game on my own. Unless I somehow breeze through the learning process. I am trying my best to understand every single thing the book is talking about. This program is just fantastic and fun.

As for the Media Browser button, I guess its just not usable in the trial. But it should since its clickable. Hmmmm...

Hey Iron Maiden,

Just letting you know that the media browser doesnt work in the trial editions...but the full versions definately come with the media and help files. So learn all you can and I strongly encourage you to buy the full version of pro or classic (once you figure out how to program on your own it is the coolest thing). Good luck with it all and stick with it.
