what type of musik, specific band, or even specific CD do you listen to while you program and why?

I listen to Linkin Park Hybrid Theory, because the differing rythems allow my to really think and I code about 20 line per hour faster while listening to it then when I don't, and I get less errors.

I have to code with music. I usually listen to Evergrey, megadeth, metallica, as i lay dieing, Killswitch engage, Unearth, rammstein, godsmack, iron maiden, yngwie malmsteen, and mostly other 80's metal bands. I can see why linkin park helps you code, I'm not a big fan of their type of music, but it sounds really good. I code best when i listen to yngwie malmsteen. Its just guitar solo's only, no singing .

Music.

Country music.

Mixed with some rock.

And, now and then, folk or folk/rock.

Sometimes a very little bit of trance-ish stuff (I blame lagmaster).

I have the TV on in the background and it generally slows me right down. I blame my lack of progress on games to looking over to the TV for 5 minutes at a time ... every 5 minutes.

I should turn the thing off then I'd be racing through my code.

i normaly listen to something more subtle when i code, because if I put on something like Queen, Meatloaf, Mettalica, REM, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy in fact most of my music, i start singing along to it and lose focus!... some meditation music dosnt disturb me, maybe some gregorian chants...but i think id probably sing to them aswell...

Yeah it slows me down too . If my sisters didn't live here then the tv would be off most of the time.

I listen to one of three styles, depending on my mood...

I have to listen to music while codeing, because otherwise, I can hear my parents talking in the other room, and ( if it's on ) the TV going, and both those just put me off. Even when cars drive past on the road, I lose concentration

The three styles are;

( I don't know what it's called ) Things like System Of A Down / Korn;
Light Rock, such as Creed or Blue Man Group;
Normal Rock, which I just have a ranom playlist in WMP

Jess.

Greyhoundz, Sponge Cola, Rivermaya, Siakol, Eraserheads.

But in the end, they all bow down to Slapshock.

mostly korn and other metal, metalica, and recently, although this isnt music, eddie izzard's monologs. when i listen to music, it gives rythem to my code and causes me to spend too much time on one thing and just move on. plus, it drowns out the sound of those things that are out in that place...

I usually watch TV while I program, I watch The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Futurama. The music which I occasionally listen to while program are the Millenium Celebration CD from Disney World Epcot, and Matchbox 20.

25% of the time usually just rock. Other 75% is usually the Chrono Cross soundtrack. I find it very calming to work in.

CR's mom.... mouses mom...
:p

Actually it depends on the time of day.

From 8am - 6pm Usually stuff like Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, and Nevermore. But at lunch, I like to listen to a Comedy show from George carlin.

From 6pm - 10pm is usually Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir... stuff like that.

Then 10pm - 8am is Trance... usually a shoutcast station.

Black Label Society
Dream theater
Pink Floyd
Busta Rhymes
U2
Sonic Mayhem (yes the music from Quake 2 and 3)
David Bowie
Dub Pistols
Slayer
Offspring

Why? Because rock...ROCKS! And Busta Rhymes is an old favorite from Junior High school, his raps are tight (little pun)and calm me while working on code and pretty much anything else.

System of a Down,
Linkin Park,
Guns 'n' Roses,
Jimmy Eat World,
Sum 41,
Good Charlotte,
Rammstein.

For coding, I find the Rammstein soundtracks are the best.

O yeah, and I always listen to this through my beloved WinAmp... I've got it so it's a little bar poppy-out thing on the top of the screen...

Erm, most of the above, but strangely Megadeth seems to go best when I'm programming (I mean I get more hyper and start typing faster - although obviously not to the insane levevl of Napalm Death). Oh, and there's a Roger Waters album (Pink Floyd blokey) and a few Ozric Tentacle efforts that I like too as they mess with the speakers quite a lot. Which is always fun for a spare few minutes wind down from programming.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Well, I don't program, but I enjoy listening to music when I play games. Currently in a more Led Zeppelin/Mercyful Fate mood then usual...and, no, they're nothing alike

Agreed. I like the chronocross/most of the final fantasy game music.. Specially the softer in town music ones. Though theme songs are sometimes good too.
