You'll need to either download objects and graphics, or make your own.

If you are going to make 3D models, I would suggest Wings3D (http://www.wings3D.com), because it's easy to use and free , but unfortunately it can't animate. There is also anim8or, but I don't know the URL for that.

That's about all I know - I'm even worse at modelling than I am at coding so most of my games are full of models from DarkMATTER or turbosquid.com or the DarkBASIC primitives [img][/img]

Am I the only one here who's really confused?

Well if you do not know much about dbpro then i would say it is a good idea first to play around with it and get to know the basic before move on. When you know much about the asic stuff and wanna make levels ETC then i would say that Cartography shop 4 is good it cost 65 $ But is that worth it is Very easy to start on and you can make great levels too!!

Cartography shop 4 Link

If you wanna start with a free world creator then Deled is also good.

DeleD is the best freeware world editor out there (as far as I know ) I highly reccomend it, as it's VERY easy to pick up, even if you've never modeled before. Cartography Shop 4 (CShop4) is even better, but you do have to pay some money.

For general purpose modeling, I'd suggest Milkshape, a low-poly modeler. It's only $20 bucks, but it does more then you might expect for $20.

Failing that, get the light edition of gameSpace. It's VERY complicated, but it's free and the only limination is it can't save models higher than 3000 polys (or maybe 5000 hmmm, not sure) which is enough for most projects

"Beginners guide to darkbasic game programming" is good, yeah, but only if you've never programmed before. If you have (i.e. VB.net or C++ or VC++) then I wouldn't reccomend it. You can learn just as much from reading the manual.

GIMP 2 is a very good texture app. Kinda like MSPaint, only on steroids It can do pretty much anything that other (costly) texture apps can do.

Well, that's the core stuff that I use (DeleD, Milkshape, gameSpace, GIMP) It should be enough to get ya started

the url for gmax is http://www4.discreet.com/gmax/

Though I wouldn't get too attached to gmax... if you ever go commerical (not likely but indeed possible, Void did it with Starwraith 2/3/4 and Riftspace.. and Bolt I think with Firewall, he said somone was asking about it) you can't use gmax. It's for non-commerical purposes only *inhales deeply*

anim8or is a little wierd to use. You have to switch modes every time you want to do somthing. But it works

Another thing I forgot... Blender3d is a highly decent modeler. The user interface is unlike that of pretty much any other modeler, but it's very powerful. You might want to give it a try url is http://www.blender3d.com/

With regards to GMax, if you were going to go commercial then you could get 3DS Max, which is way better..

(Okay, okay, so it costs £2000-£3000! You've got to do SOMETHING with the money the publisher gives you!)

2005. 2005. 2005. No way. 2005. 2005. You've got to be kidding me. 2005 already!?

ull need a 3d modeler, and a world builder. If u really get into it ull need a sound maker, and if u have a digital camera u can make ur own textures by taking pictures and loading them onto ur computer then loading them as textures
