First : Post this in the 3d forum you'll have more success
Second : Buy Milkshape, its only $20 and you can make a Sonic in no-time with a bit of practice
Third : Be careful, Sega don't like unnofficial games, especially if you plan to sell it

Sega never actually had big problems with it... however they're now own'd by the pitbulls
Nintendo and Sony - including all characters.

So watch yourself
A guy made Sonic for Quake3 on polycount recently and was slapped with a cease and desist - i mean his work on it was already done so no biggie, but Nintendo the last few months have been edgy as hell.
I'm just happy that FMTau is a licenced Publisher for them now

U know, this thing with copyrights is something really annoying . I agree with Sonic and stuff but, it's getting harder and harder to think about something original. Each and everyname to my game I think about was already picked up by someone. Any model I create is already similar to another even if I've never seen the other model/game. Musics can also sound a bit the same, which are copyrighted.
How many musicians have got a layer from another musician in their back because they made a song which "sounds" a bit like the copyrighter one...
U know, in 10 years, we cannot make anything or open any company Everything will be copyrighted... it's just annoying and REALLY almost impossible to think about something totally original Maybe an RPG/FPS/RAcing

The closest things I have seen to Original games recently are: Super Monkey Ball / Dance Stage Euro Mix (And many other weird music games) / Pikmin / Jet Set Radio / Animal Crossing / Parrappa the Rapper Series / PowerStone and (at its release at least) Crazy Taxi

Still - you don't have to worry about producing clones, I mean look at GTA3 and the Getaway - VERY similar in style design graphics control music I could go on The only things copyrighted are actual characters, names, logos etc.

Many highly similar games are released and no1 raises an eyebrow. But Sonic is so prestidgious, he's a mascot to a whole company, they don't want him mis-used
