when creating a game make a master folder with its name and have two folders inside this.
GAMENAME
subdir-WIP
subdir-FINAL
Work in Progress or WIP is where you make the game and all the mistakes etc..
FINAL is only the media and executable for the player and the source if you want
shrink graphics by 2 if they dont need to be that high quality
inspect your FINAL folder for any rouge stuff the game doesnt use.
delete junk stuff the game doesnt use to save sizespace per gamesize unit.
this helps in the following steps
Using this structure all you have to do is compress the FINAL folder using the zip or rar format.
www.winzip.com
www.winrar.com
google the names if i got it wrong
compressing the media and executable makes one file which can be drastically smaller then the uncompressed media and exe. eg: mygame.zip or FINAL.rar
whatever name you choose etc..
this one smaller file can be uploaded faster and downloaded faster instead of dying of downloading hell boredom. unless your broadband,
but think of the 56kers!
you could go one step further using this method with a free installer package.
eg: double click next next next next [add desktop shortcut]install finish run
after you have created the installer then you could zip or rar it up and place it on the server here provided it fits the size.
why not tho:
get free website space at many places online or right here in this forum of users.
when you have a block of space like a hard drive in cyberspace u can upload cyberjunk to it.lol
anyway, ftp the compressed file to your webserver using a file transfer protocol application client like wsftp.
you will need a address username password etc.
get a domain name as well if you want like www.omgitstotallyphatentertainmentwithbellsandrockets.com
seriously shorter the better but so many have been taken
think of a unique word or phrase and check your domain name valability
point the domain name to your web hosting site and viola there sent there if you typed in your domain.
