As I said, I'm making me own PC,

My birthday is coming up in 1 week and a couple of days, I've decided to make my own PC with this equipment:

> 40GB Hard Drive
> nVidia Motherboard
> nVidia GeFORCE 5600 series 3d card
> 1GB Ram
> WinXP Pro (Or possibly Win2000)
> CD/DVD RW

I'm excited! Im gonna start now and get more equip by 20th January (My B'Day)

This might be useless but...Urr...

::Running:: :: Door Slam ::

Cheers,

Ali M

That is a particularly interesting specification.
Not sure what you need exactly, but looks like your budget is around £300 right?

AMD Athlon64 3000+ / 512MB PC2700 / MSI K8T800 Mobo - £207

Connect3D Radeon 9550 128MB 128-bit - £48

Maxtor Max 80GB SATA 8MB Cache - £44

Then after all that you'd just really need Windows XP, which I'd suggest checking your local second hand software shops for.. cause it's still a ridiculous price.

Reason I've suggest a Radeon over a GeForce is mainly because the mobo I posted doesn't support PCI-X, which means most decent FX cards start at £100.. which is unfortunate because the 6200 PCI-X is a very good card, but those boards tend to start at triple the price. The 9550 appears to out-perform the 5200 Standard which is about all you'll get for that much really. While I have and use an FX5200; when playing the newest games you do really want something with a little more power than the Standard... can't seem to find any Ultra's for less than £70, without 128-bit Memory Interface (that does affect speed more than you'd realise) is £110, at which point you can get an FX5700.

Don't know anywhere that still sells 5600s

?? How can you not put a processor and heatsink on properly ??
They only go one way, else the mobo turns your computer off.. or atleast any half decent mobo's do.

Though it's out of stock, I think this might do quite well in that config, though adding about 50 to the price of the Radeon:

Bug em till they get some in stock

Or if you want that 5700 (that's in stock):

I have a funny story about this. You see one time, someone i built a computer for, decided to do his own "maintenance" on each of the devices, and the case. He brought it to me a few days later, saying it wasn't working etc...

Now before i go on, lemme explain something. In order for a processor to work, it needs proper cooling as most of you know.

Basiclly, He had cleaned everythign in the computer... everything. Including washing the heat dope of of the heat sink. So basiclly, there was this heatsink, rattling around on its own in the case... I laughed a little... thought it was nothign serious at that point. Fixed the heat sink back on... turned on the computer still not booting up correctly (blank screen... no beep).

Still baffled i was... then i noticed the Fans on the case, had been reinserted backwords. Laughing again... i turned them around and placed them correct (which it should been obvious to the poor guy, when the fans are marked "this side outside!".

Turned ont he puter... still no repsonse.

Thats when i got angry, opened her up again... but this time witha very bright light. Thats when i noticed the funniest thing... the pins on the processer where sticking from the side... could see there edges.

I investigate more to learn... he smashed the processer down in there with all his might... bending every single pin. I had more then a light laugh when i saw that. The only reason the processer was in its place is because about 8 of the pins on the outside of 3 of the edges we're in correctly.

So the answer is... Its easily possible not to put them on properly, in this world atleast .

No No,

I will use wood for the case, hammer the processor in, punch the RAM in, kick the nVidia grpahics card in, smash the motherboard in, drop-kick the CD-RW/DVD RW in, and finally, destroy the 40GB hard drive, and not forgetting to shove the windows XP/2000 CD into the CD drive with rage

LOL

Thank you for your time,

Ali M
