It's better than most places that are out of 50 miles of anywhere else (no that didn't make sense), all the motorways lead to or from or around it so why not have the next in London?

No, London is possibly the most inconvienient place in the country for most people. I'd rather be driving completely lost, to an unknown destination in the country than NOT MOVING in London.

London is too expensive. Chichester is more reasonable.

I live in London and I just jumped into my car to get to the Con. I much prefer Chichester to, say, Birmingham. Shorter drive.

I was around just before(or maybe after) PrestonC and before MattMan. Arrived after teh Jimmy though. He must be messing around with time travel. All the forums have blended in to one... i was on RGT/LLRGT for a few posts, but i did not like it.
Personally, i'm the best. Because i've been on the forums for the optimum amount of time.

Horribly convenient for the tens of millions of people who live in the area or quite near. Like me.... or if you are older and own a car, then lets not forget that you can get from one side to another in not much time whatsoever. You'll have to re-mortgage the house though to afford the petrol though....

Who was that annoying yet strangely amusing bloke? He was like Jimmy, but amazingly rude, crude, childish and daft (note the word *amazingly*).... damn..... can't remember his name, but everyone hated him, apart from a few of us that seemed to go well with his humour. I drank a lot more in those days.... What was his name though? Rats....

I were here about as long as MikeS (back then, Yellow), I think a bit less actually. It's long enough ago that I can remember when DBC had a seperate website in the style of the editor . I didn't use RGT though, only this forum (until LLRGT came, but I think I remember people complaining about RGT going down). In fact, the first memory of this forum was being amazed at Tito the Bouncing Alien .

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Luckily I have the memory of a dead goldfish. So dangle your watch and move back and fore to put me into a trance that will provide me with enough brainwaves to amazingly remember with crystal clarity that you were actually here too in 2000. Instant DB oldbie status in the blink of an eye. Might be not too watertight though as I've spouting the same sort of nonsense here for half a decade now. Coff....

I opt for it being in Warwick, cause it'd have the convienence of Birmingham / Manchester without the horrible prices or annoying accents

The last one was a relative success though, so might be something cool to look forward to. Might be an idea planning it out with TGC for this year.. i mean you think about it Warwick is a very good place for it given where the majority of people who attended the last one live. Having something officially penned in will also give alot of people more chance to sort stuff out ya know.

If you were at the tgc irc q&a, then you would know that they hope to do an official one, if they have the cash, they also said that it would be in MANCHESTER.

Bwhahaahaa.

I live in Manchester .

That said, I do think Birmingham or Warwick would be good. Warwick is not too hard for me to get to I dont think.

They said this last year too.. and surprise surprise Nick *still* ended up doing it. Would be nice if TGC would say something and stick to it for once.

This said Manchester for me is quite a trek. Apart from the obvious problem that traffic is horrible, and that it is too easy to get lost there (and best not to go around with my Southerner accent there). It just is too big for the scale of the event, as well as dingy... I mean huge events you can get the NEC, so that's cool. Somehow I doubt they'd be entertaining several thousand, probably looking at what, 20-30people most.

If you've ever been to Warwick, it just seems to make perfect sense.
It's like 40minutes drive from Manchester / Derby / Birmingham, which puts it just off 3 Major Airports.. not to mention it is directly along the M1, which provides it with easy access for people driving. The city is small, with alot of renovations done so it kinda has that 'new city' look to it right now.
It'll be alot cheaper than holding it in a big city which makes a profit from tourists and conventions.

It isn't desolate of culture or things to do in the evenings, but even still with 3 large cities close by it is very easy to just hope on the train to one of them.

Not to mention the road system there is pretty straight-forward.
Oh and friendly locals, I've never had much of a warm welcome asking for directions in major cities or felt particularly safe walking around at nite. Given where I live atm, alright I'm pretty much used to people getting stabbed and such around me.. but Warwick is a relatively peaceful & pleasent town.

I first arrived when DBC was on 1.08. March, 2001 or sometime around then?

I witnessed the "gimme da codez" incident unfold. LOL!

Rottbott was still a DB'er then.

Does anyone remember "Digger" who released an "FPS Template"? I used that small snippet for my first game, which didn't get all that far.

I think I joined about nov 2002, I started with DBC about 3-4 months before that when I found a demo of it on a PCGamer CD. I just loved it to pieces, Remeber when I got my hands on a nice crunchy £50 pound note, and went a bought the full thing. I was around in the forums alot of the time. Then I vanished. and I pop up here and there now days, Since I no longer have a home pc, thanks to some fool breaking into my house, Im abit outta touch with DB, What made it worse is that my PC got knicked about 2 months afta I got DBPro. oh well... I spose. Ill probably fade back into the shadows for a few more months. L8r guys.

It's also on the south coast - which is sort of out of the way for most of the UK

I say Manchester too Airport (lest any of you actually want to spend £100s flying for a convention), relatively fluid transport compared to London, most you can drive there from London in the time it takes you to cross London by car, and it's close to Rick, Mike, Lee, Mnem and Me

Seriously, we could get Mike J to go and do all the organising

Meh, I’ve been here since late 2002, but i got bored with DB for a while then when i got back into it i started a new username. I was only here for about a month though. Anyone else find out about Dark Basic through the PC Gamer Demo disk? When it first came out? I've been into Dark basic since then, and never properly finished anything. I always get an engine down and then forget to put the game in. Because of that, and because i hardly ever post anything here, most people don't even realise i'm here. I read a lot of posts but rarely make a contribution. My actual posts is probably around 300 since i started with this username. I should probably post my half codes in the snippets now that i think about it. Maybe i'll finish my spaceman game first though, my girlfriend was playing it the other day and asked me if i would...hmm...I've just realised that i've actually made no active contribution to TGC. Man i feel really lame now, because i have a decent hoard of useful goodies stored on my Computer. Maybe it's time i gave a little something back, eh? Or maybe it's time i shut up? Maybe You should decide for yourself!

I think it would be best if I did shut up. I'll post up some goodies then. Maybe even tonight. But probably not.

Damn it, i know how to procrastinate. Considering i've just fixed my Avatar after it being a dead link for the past 6 months.

Ah, memories...i remember thinking i was going to make FF8 when i first got my grubby hands on the PC Gamer Demo. They had some cool music that used to play when you put the disk in, that they done away with some time ago. My old computer used to crash so often when things were autorunning, that i used the music to figure out if my PC had crashed. Hehe.

DB 1.06. the main site was black and was in a very tiny frame, if i remember correctly. the black/grey forums were pretty much brand new - i think there were fewer than 1000 posts when i first came, and there were .. what, more than 50000 posts by the time it was closed. i remember 1.09 being a godsend, the 110 beta patch which had all the DM commands, the uproar over the enhancement commands only being available in DM, 113, the DBP advent calendar, the uproar over the christmas day entry in the advent calendar that said that there would be licenses, the subsequent removal of those licenses, the main site changing looks to the "modularized" look with the YaBB forums that lasted two days, XMB on Guy's site, RGT, apollo, DBP P1 being released before DBP, DBP being released, the horrible time of instability and bugginess until P3, P4 being a godsend, moving to blitz, P5 several months later.. FPSC becoming TGC's main focus, the point release subpatches that were going to be monthly but ended up being two and then a few more trickling out over a long time, and that brings us to now.

i wonder were actarus procyon is these days?

"when it's done" means "we have no idea, we forgot to do that; we were hoping you would all forget we promised <insert exotic promise here>"

I think I first found dark basic around v1.08... I used to brouse the forums since about November 2002 but didn't create a profile until March or so 2003... Yup... I wouldn't consider myself a veteran, but I'm getting up there in years (er.. months)... Since then I've only started about six threads... I used to help out those in "newcommers corner" almost everyday before school... I was previously known as "Game_Creator" until the darkbasic team changed thier name to "TheGameCreators".

Well... ... I noticed I use ... alot...
