you guys know what the best thing about this thread is?

I'll some it up into a question that veryone should answer (and be honest).

What is your IQ and your GPA?

I have a GPA of 2.6, I have an IQ of 154(ish)

@RPGamer: I suck at Spanish too. That's the only language class we have (besides English) and we have to take it to graduate (because South Carolina hates the fact that we're next to the bottom, so make our standards higher to do what? Make even more people fail? We have the third highest standards and one of the lowest success rates on it...)

Somehow I got a C in electronics, when I enjoy it probably the most out of all the subjects. I'm good at computing, but I'm fed up of having to copy programs from text books, and make stuff like hangman, and simple file management programs. Grrr!

My last gpa 6 years ago was 3.96 overall and IQ was 145 but it dropped to 138 (if you don't learn anything new ... the older you get drops your score) Makes me wonder why they base your score on your age.

IQ scores really depend on the system use to score though.

IQ doesn't depend on learning things, it depends on solving stupid situations involving distant relatives and fold up cardboard cubes.

Hehe, it changes drastically depending on what nationality you are. Like I can score 150+ on US tests, but only 128 on the televised UK tests - just goes to show how useless the IQ score is if it variates by 25 points between countries.

It's a well known fact that you can practice IQ tests to improve them, use systems, or just plain apply a strict system to answering the questions so you don't get caught out. The Mensa tests are much tougher than most IQ tests, but I agree with Hamish on this one - it tells you nothing, there's far more to intelligence than knowing what 'egg is to cup as thumb is to eyesocket'. I think the one benefit in the scoring system is to foil peoples preconceptions - at least there's always those tests to solve arguments or just for fun, you just can't take them seriously is all.

Edit: UK telivised tests are probly some of the most accurate as they take a lot into account.

No, mensa is a group for those that score suspiciously high on iq tests. What they actually do I would like to know.

Anyway, iq tests only test your lateral and spacial thinking. To be honest, being intelligent just means understanding the world around you, at least to me it does.

i haven't got my midterm report card yet, but it probably hasn't changed much since the first marking period.

Advanced Music Tech: A+
AP Calc: A-
AP Chem II: A+
AP English (12th grade): A-
Concert Band: A+
Concert Choir: A+
German 5: A+
Health ($#(#&@#$)@): A+
Phys. Ed: A
Political Sciences Honors: A+

i also have two other grades: the graduation project, which is counted as a class all its own, and i have an A in that (and i passed it with an A as well), and morning announcements tech crew, which is a very minor credit, and i have an A in that, as it's kind of hard not to have one

for midterm tests:

Calc: 100% on the first part, the second part was really easy and will probably also be 100%
Chem: 91%
English: 90%
German: 100%
Poli Sci: just took it yesterday, don't know - probably mid-90s
Health: ditto - going to be curved because the class is designed for mentally handicapped people i swear, so i'll probably get 100% on that

i'm a nerd.

oh - and my GPA is 4.585. yes, above 4. my school has some whacked-out class weighting method, and since i take three AP classes and two honors classes (german is an honors as well), i can have a GPA over 4. what sucks is that the more classes you take, the lower your GPA, as you have more 1.0-weighted classes, as opposed to the AP and honors, which are weighted 1.2.
