Legal issues and money problems are only part of the story - he disappeared for ages without a reason, then came back promising to post his reasons, then never posted again. Apparantly it was all due to hardware failures.

Frankly there was no reason why he could'nt post and let us know what was going on, or his customers for that matter. We did'nt know if he was sick, bankrupt, dead, kidnapped by cats or anything - that personally struck me as completely 2-faced considering the standpoints he'd built himself on RGT.

Yeah, i was a bit pissed considering i bought DBP from RGT, then needed to inquire about the order for i was promised Character shot or something like that (never got what i was supposed to get with it) and he wouldn't return emails or anything.

Though i heard that he has been active on a magic the gathering forum in the last year... so i'm betting he just turned tail and ran.

oh well, i had a short mail conversation about problems for save projects and adding media sistems of the editor, about 1.5 years ago, he burned out with a spite of rage and tell me do not waste his time. he was going mad at that time i think. So there's another one for the ide system of dbpro or it is lefts at its own??

There are a good few IDE replacements - for some reason I still like using the default one, but I can imagine switching soon to one that supports multiple source windows.

I hate when really personal stuff get's dragged onto the boards, it's like throwing a dead whale into the middle of a playground. I don't mean the usual girlfriend troubles or school, I mean the stuff like divorce and death - most of us don't want to deal with that stuff while relaxing on the forums, it's supposed to be an escape.
The GuyS situation dragged out for months, when it's just 1 post it won't bother anybody, but all we had was a bunch of worried customers and a lot of concearned people who considered GuyS a friend. It wasn't too long after his heartwarming tribute to Indi's Kangaroo battle (IIRC the Kanga won with a TKO).

That's something I couldn't do, like just disappear - heck the longest I've stayed away from a DB forum is 1 week, and that was only because I was camping in the highlands.

Official Public Relations reason is, "Guy Savoie after damage to servers in the region of $9,000 was forced to back out as United States publisher over financial issues."

While this is not the entire reason it is part of it, and the part that conserns people. Everything else to do with his situation and reason for 'disappearing' was personal.. this said there is one user on here that could explain the situation from a more inside point of view, but I doubt he will.

He was getting behind on his RGT orders because there was a larger response than he anticipated. After a few nasty events like getting stuck in florida because his wallet stolen (and all his credit card maxed out) he fell further behind. Customers complained to TGC and TGC told them to cancel there orders. Then paypal noticed all the cancled orders and decided it was fraud (locking his account up). The last straw was the servers that crashed and he was left with a hefty bill.

I think there were some other personal problems around the same time too.

Hehe - so true

My personal conspiracy theory is that RGT was a loss maker, and was shut down.

Wow, good thing I ordered my copy of DBP from TGC. I was mad at myself for doing it after I discovered RGT (because RGT was in the NA and shipping was cheaper). Anyways, that was around the time when they disappeared--- I could've been out.

"The name hasn't changed at all"

Leyvin, Raven.. yep, indistinguishable.

and to clear something up - no, Guy was not on a "magic: the gathering" forum. he was on a magic forum - like a performing magician's forum. that was (and still is) his job IRL, not RGT.

"AlecM" (frogger, change your name back, you're not fooling anyone ) has the story right, and he got it from me. not to take credit from him, but really, he did. there were problems beyond just the $9000, which i don't think would be appropriate to divulge here. let's just leave it that the pressure of RGT was really starting to affect his real life in a negative way. it probably wouldn't have lasted much longer even if the servers hadn't been fried.

"when it's done" means "we have no idea, we forgot to do that; we were hoping you would all forget we promised <insert exotic promise here>"

Well at least he could have sent the source to the DBP editor to TGC or something. Let this be a lesson. Never include someone elses program with yours unless you have a backup of the source.

guy went back to being a magician, I found one of his newer forums and made a post about the way he dealt with my domain name that he registered. He deleted the post and would not reply to any emails.

I basically told him to get faunicated after 9 months of trying to contact him.

you can trawl him on the web if you use his name and the word magic in a google search. he wont reply tho.

you could say he did a famous magic trick of dissapearing but hes foolin no one.

lol at kevin with the DB witness protection program haha

Although the Japanese don't pronounce their L's properly either. Lanko is pronounced Danko but the 'D' is a light d sound.
