Is there a way to create an AVI movie file from screenshots in Dark Basic?

There is many programs that can do it.
In fact I have one but it is to big to post and I don't remember the site. Google is your friend.

I suggest to you Blender, which is a free awesome, 3DS Max type program, which allows you to make realistic 3D movies, and is also good for the use of creating 3D models(.X format) for the DarkBasic environment. Just check out the pictures below, which were created in Blender.

The link is http://www.blender3d.org/, and you will be super glad you chose this program. It is free because the developers of the program are supporters of "Open-Source"! There are tutorials within the program and within the website, and elsewhere on the net.
You can't beat being enabled to use a program, which is FREE, that is right up next to 3DS Max! Not only that, but there are programmers continually working to update the program and make it better. The interface for Blender is quite different, but once you have the hook on it, you will notice that it is the most efficient one of all to model characters and create movies. Don't settle with trying to buy 3DS Max or trying to create an avi in DarkBasic. Use Blender. Enjoy!

Yeah, I know of many 3rd party programs that can do it, but the trick is that I want to do it directly from dark basic, and without having to save each frame as an individual bitmap (because not only would that take forever, it would eat up disk space).

For that, you'll have to research the .avi file format ( WotSit's a good place to start ). Then, you'll have to write a series of functions that take what's on the screen and encodes it into that file format

I doubt you'll be able to do anything real-time in DarkBASIC, but give it a shot

Jess.

There are two ways to do this:

You can manaually use PRINTSCREEN btton, and paste them into a program such as ANIMATION SHOP 3 [href]www.jasc.com[/href]

Or you can use an actual desktop videoing program such as CAMTASIA STUDIO http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp :
(This site has a long loading time) They have a free trial with a 30 day limit, but it doesn't detect date change, so if you record the install date, and constantly set it back to this date, it shall last forever.... Good luck.

Lightning Studios.... The home of good ideas

If your Looking for a cheap screen capture program try Fraps, it was intended for screen capturing video games. Big in the CS world. Fraps also displays your FPS on screen so it doubles as a FPS benchmark util (none of the benchmarking numbers or fraps displayed numbers get displayed within the avi you record. And best part it's only $30USD. There is a version you can use for free however it limts you to avi's at 30fps, has a watermark, and limits how long your movie can be.
