Trig:

Adjacent and Opposite angles = tan

ay = tan-1 ( (C-Z) / (A-X) )

tan-1 is inverse tan if you didn't go

that help?

EDIT you got teh eqaution right, but you needed to perform inverse tan on it

Hmmm... Looks kinda like the stuff my hs-math teacher is trying to pound into my head. I'm to smart for her though. (meaning, I can't figure any of it out) Give me about three months and I'll have it down pat and can help ya then.

I've bein driving since the age of three; if you don't belive me ask my parents, you can find them at the county hospital for the mentally imbalanced.

if you get the tangent on an angle called theta (there's a symbol for it) it is equal to the opposite side of the triangle (C-Z in this case) divided by the adjacent side that is not the longest side (hypotemuse), which is A-X in this case. This gives us:

tan theta = opp / adj
OR
theta = tan-1 opp/adj
OR
opp = adj * tan theta
OR
adj = obj / tan theta

There are also sin (which is opp and hyp) and cos (adj and hyp).

The way of remembering it is this:
 O    A    O
S H  C H T A
(soh cah toa)

Understand any more?

Yup, the fish is right. However, you actually got the equation the wrong way around, observe:

Tan0 = Opp / Adj
Tan(aY) = (C-Z)/(A-X)
aY = Tan-1((C-Z)/(A-X))

You started off with the wrong formula, don't you know SOH CAH TOA?

Edit: Damn, the fish beat me again.

It's so you can remember the O is over A bits with less effort like s=d/t has a little triangle

the "teh codez"(DBPro) style of this operation would be

Quote: "soh cah toa"

i always remembered it as "Oscar had a hold on Arthur" (which only remember's "oh ah oa" but since the trig functions are usually listed in "sin cos tan" order it doesn't matter)

Quote: "hypotemuse"

My maths teacher taught it as 'sex on holiday can affect health to old age' (take the first letters and arrange in triangles)

A point function? The one that returns the value of a pixel?

Hate to brake it to you, smartass, but Hypoteneuse isn't the correct spelling either, its hypotenuse.

I'm confused.

Anyway, what does the hyp button on my calculator do?

And why do they have cos if there's sin?

The hyp on your calculator gives access to the hyperbolic trig functions. You can go your whole life without needing those. If you are not a mathematician or engineer that is.

Something really catchy that makes people stop and think about the meaning of life and say to themselves "My but thats clever"
