hi

I´ve just got some questions about FPSC:

1.

Can i loop music in a game made in FPSC?

And if Yes, then can I make a trigger zone that will stop the current looping music, and start another looping music, you know, just to change the atmosphere

2.

If I make a pretty big level, how long will it take to load it?
I mean, if you´re playing a game made in FPSC, and walks into a trigger zone that should start the next level, how long will the loading time be?

3.

In the 7 min. walkthrough, I saw that the Mini Gun only could fire 6 bullets be´fore it had to reload.
Can I change it to fx. 60 bullets instead? Or 1000?

4.

If the player steps into a lift, can he decide to go up or down?

5.

What excactly does the Player Checkpoints?
Do they save the game so you won´t have to start all over again if you quit the game, and then wants to play it again later?
And if they save the players progress, will you be able to load it from the menu?

I hope you will/can answer my questions

Thanks

1. You can have looping music. 50% sure that can be controlled via FPI scripts.

2. Not too long. It takes ages to 'create' the level - that in calc lights, compile textured, do CSG etc but that's only done once. Then all that data is saved along with the exe so there's only a moderate loading time when you load a level.

3. Pretty sure you can.

4. Hmm. I haven't look at lifts too much. My current understanding is that an FPI script tells the lift to move - so if you found a way to change which script is played - perhaps having two different areas on the lift deck to activate the lift - then it may be possible.

5. No idea. I assume they allow you to return to a specific point when dieing instead of going back to the beginning.

Nooooooo!
I want the save function!

It´s not cool if the player has fought through fire and ice(from level 1 to level 10) and then have to start all over again if he quits the game...

For gods sake, every game has a save/load function !

But anyways, thanks for your answers

Yeah!
I´m not sure if I´m going to buy it if the player isn´t able to save his progress during a game

Can´t someone confirm that it WILL be possible to save ingame???

If not, then my dream about FPSC has come to an end....

I think there is a save/load function. It's not checkpoints though.

Ummm, well, actually, yes.

But it doesn't seem like a save/load function is an unreasonable request. Though I don't normally number myself among the "if we don't get this then FPSC will really stink" crowd, I can see where a game would become annoying if you had to restart at every level you die in (though I can think of a lot of FPSs where this is the case)(and they're all kind of annoying ).

It would seem to me, though, that it wouldn't be difficult to include a function which would serialize current player status to disk. Then again, I haven't seen the code for the engine, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Basically dark.

You could make checkpoints VERY often. But that's inefficient and what if the program doesn't save checkpoints when you close the game?!?!

If you place down check point markers through your level design, then players will re-spawn at the last achieved check point.

We do realise a save and load system for games is important. We have currently dropped it for EA but will implement it very soon afterwards. Don't worry, FPSC will continue to grow and expand.

RickV,

thank you.

Does that mean that the player will respawn to the last checkpoint only if he dies while playing and not if he exits the game? and does that mean that if you dont complete the game in one session and exit or shut down your computer you have to start from the beggining not the checkpoint? If I have to go shopping do I have to leave my computer on?

Is there a pause game function? So that if one has to stop playing for any reason like I have to go to the toilet - otherwise, I get killed and go back to checkpoint while serving the call of nature - Yes.

This is all not very clear.

Thanks
