does anybody know where I can get a free program that converts .map files to something that can be used in dbc?

If you have CSHOP you can use the converter to .csm then export to .x

I tried but I can't import other file types other than .csm and I can't export.

Do you have the registered version of CSHOP or you won't be able to export. And iif you want to import a .map you'll have to use the converter found on the cshop forum.
