I'm building a new PC and am wondering... what is the best CPU I can get for under £100? I have been looking at AMD Sempron 2GHz but am a little uncertain because last time I bought a cheap AMD, it was a Duron 1.8GHz and it is really really slow, and I think it is something to do with the cache. I would really like to get a P4 but the motherboards look a little expensive...

Can anybody give me some advice please?

Cheers, Pricey

Sure get the AND Athlon XP2800+. It has over 2Ghz and you can get it OEM(No heatsink or fan) for £61.73 or retail(With heatsink and fan) for £80 on Ebuyer.com

Ebuyer also deal in $$$ if you need it.

Oh, and http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPC-AMD_Processor_1_x_AMD_Athlon_64_3000_2_GHz_L2_512_KB Should knock the s**t out of the Sempron. Much like the Duron was a pile of crap next to a proper Athlon effort.

Lol, I'm gonna go with a P4 2.8Ghz for £117.50 from www.spotonuk.com

I'm getting most of my components from there, they are very good.

2.8ghz P4
512MB Ram
120GB HDD
DVD RW
128MB Saphire GFX Card

I think...

Pic of my case included. I got it for £33 including P&P on EBay, brand new

I wouldn't have got that one myself. The AMD64 3000+ was better value (less than £100), and it's faster. Esp. when 64bit windows gets going.

And if you look up the benchmarks (see Toms hardware guide) the AMDs just about always beat the equivelant Intel with the same hardware setup. eg. an XP2800+ is slightly faster than a 2.8Ghz P4 etc. And the AMD64 is supposed to be even better.
