Right, quite a few people have noticed the problem with apostrophes and forward slashes..

*SOMETIMES*, forward slashes have a tendency to disappear, and to appear in front of apostrophes - the 'Location:' bit under my avatar is such an example.

If you edit a post, forward slashes disappear from the edit box, and appear if the forum tells you to re-edit your post - for example, if you include swear words in the 'message' box.

I believe this is because the forum internally adds slashes before apostrophes, and takes them away again afterwards, and there's something wrong with it..

Can anybody comment on this?

If everybody answered every question like that, the world would be a better place for us all..

'And where do you think YOU'RE going?'
'Yes.'

'Can I have some money?'
'Yes.'

'Do cats rule?'
'Yes.'

Its straight to the point. You asked if someone would comment on your problem, and I said yes... You didn't actually ask for a specific comment.

If your post is rejected at first, they will appear in the body of the text. It has to do with PHP, but I can't specifically explain.

Its PHP escaping them. Otherwise, you could type a ' into a post body and when it gets put into the SQL query it'd cause all sorts of nastiness.

*detects soemone's birthday coming up on sunday*.

basically what it is, in PHP to see some punctuation in text and so it doesnt confuse itself with php syntax, you put a "\" infront to say its part of the text, if darkbasic used this method then you could do this:

Print "Bob says \"hi\""

the parser reads the "\" so knows not to do what the following character does, since in this case the following " would end the print statement.

so on the screen you get:

bob says "hi"

not

I've also noticed that when a thread title contains certain characters, on the top section of the board only the first part of the title shows up(everything before the special character(s)). Wonder whats up with that

I've noticed in Firefox that slashes appear when they shouldn't.

Yes, we know all this already, no need to resurrect a 2 month-old thread for it.
