I just built myself a new pc but im worried.

When i start my PC up from cold (not been on all night)

I have to keep switching the power off and restarting until the motherbaord beeps (the fans start though?) etc...then its fine.

I was considering taking it to a PC shop to fix this... good idea?

anyone know whats wrong?

Make sure the ram and video card are plugged in all the way. Check the cables on all drives, cards, and the power supply.

make sure your not switching your computer on too soon, switch the power on, wait about 10-15 seconds then switch it on

Ok, thanks.

Im 99.99% sure its not a loose connection. Every connection has been pushed in to the max (literally!)

and thanks IanG, ill try that (as the power @ wall is allways on) so, thanks.

Make sure the BIOS settings are on default. When you see the BIOS logo (when you first turn on your computer), press DEL and select Load Optimized Defaults (or something like that). Then Save and Exit.

what kinda beeping?

make note of the amount of beeps and if they are long or short. Post them with your bios make, then we can track down the problem

Normally i would say it's a problem with either the ram or the video card not pushed in/latched properly.

WindowsXP Home(Service pack 2), Athlon XP 2400+(2.1Ghz), 1GIG Ram, Ati Radeon 9800Pro 128MB.
