UPDATE
We have a website! http://www.redsparkstudios.co.uk
Have a look - there isn't much, but what there is, is good stuff.

Attached to this thread is a copy of the CD cover. NB : The technical specifications are not correct yet. Need more testing.

Games like this are just not the same with a mouse... Does the environment scroll as the level progresses, or does the camera sit quietly while enemies just keep popping out?

It scrolls from scene to scene, and you also have a protection shield.
I have a lot of lightgun games for ps2, and I know how much fun they are. Unfortunately, because of the growing popularity of LCD screens, it would make no economic sense for any hardware manufacturer to create PC lightguns at the moment, so I cannot support them. They are a dying breed of game...

Believe it or not...The PC CDROM logo you used on your DVD case costs money to use. I'm not telling you this to burn you or anything, I looked into it for my own personal project awhile back. If I could remember the link to the organisation, I'd paste it for you to look into. However, I can't seem to find it.

www.erealgames.com have a new light gun that works with LCD, Plasma, Projection, any and all TVs. These games are not dead.

Woah thanx tapewormz.

I'll have to design 'my own' pc cd rom text! And thanx for that lightgun site - though its too expensive and doesnt work with PC games.

I've emailed them about bringing support to PC and they have said "we are considering it". Guess I'll have to create a second version of 2DSGC if they do bring it to PC.

Just a little suggestion.

The text on the back cover stating the limitations might "put off" people. I appreciate you might not sell it, but if you where it could deter the customers.

Looks good though

What mean you?

The requirements are not real on the above CD cover! Testing has allowed me to find out what it really needs. And the game is for sale (ie Not Free). I was thinking about £4.99 cd/£3.99 dl, but maybe it could be cheaper...

Oh, those limitations

Well, I could remove them, but I thought it might dissapoint people if they got it thinking "I'm going to put 100 different people in a big scene", when their PC can't do it. Then I may get sued for not warning them that there were limitations...

NB : the low FPS on the screenies is because of my rather poor gfx card. There are no problems with the coding.

Does anyone have any ways I could improve the framerate on lower-spec machines? I have tried most of the tricks in my book, and it still slows loads even on my geforce 2...

EDIT : All movement and shooting is now timer-based, so I guess the framerate won't affect it too much (but twill still be noticeable).

no one has sued TGC yet for saying that DBP has features
that it doesn't or are broken.

as for improving framerate,
the only thing i can suggest is set the display mode from
the editor, not using 'set display mode' ... that gives a
boost on low spec machines (and i know cause i have one of
the lowest-spec machines that can still run dbp)

is there a demo to download and try?

Heres an old weapons demo, but there will be a full test level demo soon. The old demo attached to this post allows you to fire a few weapons at air, nothing more.

NB : since this demo, the weapon system has been rewritten so there is no difference on low spec machines! Also, some of the weapons have changed.

EDIT : Arg! File uploading has stopped working on the forumz!

You'll have to wait for a demo, when I finish it and get new hosting.

I don't think I'll have much time for a while, even though all I need to do is apply the finishing touches. Demo will be available when I can get it on my webspace.

Well, I was near the end of the test level when I thought about sending levels, and stopping people tampering with the media. So today I developed a tamper-proof media system, and have functions to create a package-creator for the level files. This will allow me to have a showcase on the webspace (when we get it), so levels can be sent to all!

Haven't posted for a long time, but we now have an animated package creator and half a website. I'll get some screenshots of the packager soon for you!

We are now also making more than one test level for the showcase on the site - including some exe compiled games.
