Hey man, welcome to the forums, a FPS is a big undertaking so I really wouldn't start there. Look at the pong stickie at the top of this area for a really basic idea of stuff, then try to make breakout or something along those lines.

Starting something too big will just make you give up and hate DB and then you'll never come back to it. Now i know you don't want to learn pong, but I did and now I'm making a space sidescrolling shootem up, you have to work up!

Well, I'm trying aren't I.....

Yay, text adventures, its been so long since i made one (my first was when i was 8-10 on the commodore64 hehe).
Right nostalga fit over now, I suggest having a look at the sprite commands and such, have a search on these forums (the big old search button at the bottom of each page is such a help - taught me pretty much all i know!) and then play around.
Myself i never really got into the 2D scene, and started off with matrixes and cubes walking across them, umm i think i made a codesnippet to get someone started on this, ill have to find it later if your interested ?
Good luck and welcome

I did a tut for newbies on FPS games. You can find it here:

Sorry if I'm spamming (don't think so).

Good luck.

Yes Durdge39 produced a great tutorial. I highly recommend it.
