Bluetooth is too slow for that sort of thing.

I think it only allows file transfer (At least on my laptop there's only file transfer). None ofhte fancy networking stuff that omes with windows.

I would just get a network cable and connect the two laptops together, if they're close

I am getting wireless network cards. £20 each, the same price I was willing to pay for the bluetooth dongles...

The original goals for Bluetooth, were to be able to reduce the price of the dongle to $7 and allow for short-range communication at an alright speed.

Basically cheapness is one of the main factors. And it runs at 2.4 GHz, which is nice because it gets absorbed by water, so the (very little) radiation gets absorbed into the water around your brain rather than your actual brain. Hell, FM radio waves are more damaging.

Is all I need to set up a LAN between two pcs, the network cards? No routers or anything... expensive

Is it easy to set up in Windows XP Pro (the OS both the PCs will be using)?

Yes, unlike Ethernet you can configure them in an 'ad-hoc' mode so that they just talk to each other.

I recommend you install SP2 on your Windows XP computers, 'cuz they did something to the wireless system to make it better. In theory, you should just be able to install the cards, and they'll recognize each other and talk.

Otherwise, you'll have to spend a looong time trying to get them to work. And don't forget to turn on Wireless Encryption at some time, too!

Uhh.. you can setup 2 computers together with a crossover cable... same diff as 'ad-hoc'

As for sharing internet, yes it'll work, unless you're using aol or something

view your network connections, the right click on your internet connection, then in there somewhere you can set it up to "share to multiple computers"

another way to do it is to get the computers setup wirelessly, then simply use the network setup wizard on both computers and it'll take care of it for you.
