Ok,

Since the first version turned out pretty well I figured why stop there. So, the new version that is now in progress will be much improved, and ten times better. If it turns out as planned I think it will beat any competition out there of this type of game.

Here's the newest screen shot:

Some New Feature's:

-Multiple Skins With Skin Importer
-Music Player With Importer
-Multiple Special Effects (Explosions, etc.) With Importer
-Multiple Screen Resolutions Plus Windowed Mode
-Joystick Compatible With Force Feedback Capabilities
-Detailed Help Menus
-Customizable Control Configurations

Then on top of all that I want many different modes of play.
Here's all the different modes there will be:

Classic: The same as the original version of Gina's Gems.

Puzzle: You will have a certain amount of moves to clear all the gems.

Adventure: You have a little character that can pick up gems and move them. You have to arrange the gems in a certain way to get to the end of the level. This will be a 2d scrolling mode.

Time Attack: This will be like a Tetris type of a game where gems in columns of three or more will fall from the top of the screen and you have to arrange them in matches of three to break the gems. (similar to Gem Master)

Blast Away: There will be an arrangement of gems on the top of the screen and you have to shoot gems from the bottom of the screen to the top to make matches of three or more. (Similar to Snood)

Factory: There will be a picture in the middle of the screen and there will be an assembly line at the bottom of the screen. Gems of different shapes and colors will come out threw the assembly line and once it is completely filled you lose. To win you have to fill the picture with the different gems to go on to the next level.

So, if anyone has any ideas that I haven't mentioned, I'd like to hear them.

I'm going to start sketching some ideas on paper and see how things are going to work out.

The first thing I want to do is get the multiple screen resolutions working because I can just make a separate function that will take care of this. However, I tried to do this in the first version, but I couldn't really get it right. I got the windowed mode to work just fine by using the window On/off commands and then reloading all the graphics. However, when switching resolutions I think the media it self have to be resized. If this is the case then I will need to have the images in each resolution, which will take a little more memory, but it will work just fine. I feel this really isn't professional though, so if anyone has any ideas on this it would be appreciated.

After that I'll make a few more functions that I will need and then start working on the music player and importer. I want it to have a playlist that can be mixed up with a shuffle button, programmed to play certain songs in a certain order, a import button that will let you import songs into the game, and then of course a music volume, music on , and music off buttons.

It will take a while for all that, but I'll let you guys know when I'm finished with it (resolutions and Music).

i think you should be able to just switch between 640x480 and 800x600 directories. with this type of game i don't think you need to support resolutions any higher so at the start the user selects the resolution and then they play. if they wanna change then they would have to restart the game. i think this is pretty standard with these types of games

Ya, probably 640x480 and 800x600 are good enough. I'm going to put the prompt for the resolution in the beginning and also have it in the "Display Options". Also, a Gamma control and something that can change the depth of the resolution too. This stuff is probably not needed, but I figure if you got it and can make it work, why not?

I sent you the sketches and .exe file for the "Audio Options"; let me know if the transfer worked this time. I'm going to rewrite the code for it because it was a little sloppy.

Thanks

Once were done with the audio options I'll put a little demo of it out. It'll be just the audio options, but the thing is that it will probably the most complex audio options I have ever seen in any game. Then we all will just start using the audio options for the game as your media player, lol.

Ok,

I'm really close to finishing up the demo. I've still got some things left to do before I put it up here. I made it so when the cursor is over a button a little caption comes up and tells the user what the button is. The pause and resume button works perfect. The previous and next buttons work perfect. The close, sound on\off, music on\off, and shuffle buttons also work perfect. If still got to the hard part left to do though, which is the the new playlist, load playlist, and add to playlist. Its only hard because I'm going to have to make a file browser. I'm going to take a look at TDK Man's file browser later and see if I can use it or not, I might to change some things for it though. I'll try to get a little demo up as soon as possible.

Ok,

The file browser is now completed.

Here's the code for the file browser:

Thanks to BlinkOk for the idea and Kelebrindae for the code

I'll add the file browser code to my code later and put out a small demo

Feel free to use the file browser code all you want. Its very confusing code, but all you have to do is play around with the first part of it to make it do what you want.

Hey guys,

I finally got the Audio Options done . It took quite a while, there was a lot of little bugs that I had to get out and every time I fixed one bug it created another one. However, I think I got them all now, so here's a download link.

http://UnderworldGaming.hellmutharts.com/AudioOptionsDemo.zip

A skin still needs to be added in the background though. Let me know if you guys find any bugs at all.

See Ya

@Pincho Paxton and Baggers - Thanks guys

@BlinkOk - Its been doing that knid of stuff all along, which made it really hard to code because I could write a whole bunch of code and then run it and the whole thing would crash and I would have to start over again. Finally I realized that it was something to do with the images, they were in the .png format originally, which saved a lot of space, but I think DarkBasic wasn't liking it that much, so I changed them to the .bmp format and its been working fine ever since. Anyways, what do you want to about the skin in the background, which one should I use?

@Peter_ - Ya, I used to bug him all the time to upload stuff for me so then he kinda just let me do it myself with a subdomain address. I'm using CuteFtp for it, but its only the trial version, so I've been downloading the trial version, uploading my files, and then uninstalling the trial version. I'm guessing that way it will be a long 30 trial days .

Edit: If you guys find any bugs let me know because I doubt I actually got them all .

See Ya

are you talkin about the forground border with the logo and gems? if that's what your talkin about then i thought it would change for each level. i think i've done about 5 of them and i'll prolly do about 5 more.

Ya, I was talking about that, the forground. I'm going to have the skin change for each level, but I think the option skins should stay the same because not all the skins are going to look right with the options. But, if you want the skins in the options to change too, we can do it if you want.

Also, we should probably get moving because I've wasted a lot of time on the coding end of it already. I've got a few hours right now so if you want to start the Display options or something you can. If you want I can do a little sketch of it like we did with the Audio Options.

i did a couple of tests and if you want you could tint the audio skin to approximate the general tint of the border (See the attachment). it worked out ok in my tests with flash and i know there are a few bitmap commands that will change the tint of a bitmap.
i'll be working (parttime) on the borders. if there is ANYTHING you need me to do just let me know

Do you want me to use the font you used or keep the one I just changed it to. Also, I'm going to make it so the song names so they don't show the extension too.

Edit:

I fixed the song names so they don't show their extensions and updated the download link again, check it out. Also, do you guys know any other sound formats that DarkBasic uses besides .wav, .mp3, .mid?

I was testing the display optionsmedia player last night and I realized that it doesn't support .cda (cd audio) files. That is actually a fairly big downfall with the media player, so I'm going to add some code that will make it support .cda files.

Also, I've completed the sketch of the Display Options and have already sent it to BlinkOk. He's going to make it look nice and professional and then when he's done he'll sent it back to me and I'll start coding it.

Here's The Feature's It Will Have:

-Graphics Card Selector
-Multiple Display Modes - (640x480x16, 640x480x32, 800x600x16, 800x600x32)
-Window Mode - (On\Off)
-Gamma Changer - (Red: 0-511, Green: 0-511, Blue: 0-511)

That's all that is planned at the moment, but if anyone else has an idea of a feature that I could add, tell me.

I'll post again when we get some of this stuff done.

See Ya

You're right I just tried the Load Music command with a .cda file and it works fine. I guess the Load CdMusic command in DBC is kind of pointless then . So, I guess the media player will support .cda files, but I got to add something first before it can though.

Thanks Trs80 Model2
