Hello all,

Been listening through a load of old tunes, and I thought I'd see what other people have down as their top 3 computer game tunes

My favourites...

1) Turrican (any, in particular, 2)
2) The Killing Game Show
3) Outrun

How about you?
Cheers.

Turrican had awesome music, even the humble ST sound chip tracks by Jochen Hippel were great.

This would be my top 3 though:

1. Speedball2
2. Cannon Fodder
3. Turrican2

All the bitmap bros games had quality music, Speedball sticks out because it had this awesome hook, like a little horn segment in the middle that was so damn catchy. Magic Pockets even had a tune by Betty Boo, but not just a version, the actual tracker modules were made by the woman herself. Same goes for Cannon Fodder, the real Captain Sensible made the tune for that .

Rayman had the best music by far. Although Grim Fandango's was pretty awesome, too.

Dude! That's pretty old-school right there. I remember getting a single level demo of that on the amiga. I seem to recall that you played a robot of some kind - looked a lot like ED209 from robocop.

I'd have to vote for
1) Xenon 2 - Amiga (ingame music was a bit poop, but the intro music rocked)
2) Speedball 2 - Amiga (Same reasons as VanB - very grungy tune)
3) Syndicate on the PC (not Syndicate Wars - you can't beat the tension music when other agents were in the area.)

Hmmmm....

1) Xenon 2
2) Starglider
3) Agent X

Oh, and I always wanted to finish a tank game with DB objects, and then put that big gun song by AC/DC over the top of it. Nice.

Cheers

Why do we have to look it up? Well known that it's on the PC. Didn't buy it myself (had the PS version), although I remember getting resident evil on the PC and being totally disappointed...

SH2 by far. Mostly because SH2 was the only real playable one on the PC. The others sucked on the PC compared to their console counter-parts.

SH3 ran fine on my comp, lack of owning a PS2 means I cant compare it to the console version though. SH4 handling was, well.. bad.

Well when i meant playable, I refer to the controls and such (my PC can play everything good ). I wasn't a fan of he default controls, and just couldn't ever tweak them correctly.

@adr: funny you should say that, I only ever had that exact demo, not the full game!! But the game and music totally rocks. I should track myself down an orig, my Amiga is still in action. I have the cover disk ... somewhere ...

Here's the music (you need DeliPlayer, well worth a d/l also on this site

http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/games/Killing_Game_Show_The.html

That whole site is brilliant. While I'm here, here's my favourite radio link, retro styyyylle, you need to download the player when it prompts (JorbisPlayer), but its about 48-hours of arcade/amiga/spectrum/c64/etc. music, genius.

http://www.jcraft.com/jorbis/player/JOrbisPlayer.php?play=http://ren.ondska.com:8000/stream.ogg

Come to think of it, I loved Xenon 2, Magic Pockets, Speedball too. Ahh, so much class to choose from.

Cheers.

Ooh, didn't realise The Killing Game Show was released on the MD but it was called "Fatal Rewind", just got it running on Gens emulator. Music no where near as good as Amiga (no surprise there!) but still cool

p.s. I should really say also that the GTA soundtracks are amazing. And I actually liked the cheesy metal overtones from games like F355 on DC (and later PS2), none of the reviews liked the tunes, whats wrong with 'em. haha.

Lampton... care to make a quick mp3 of that killing game show music? All I can remember is that it was metal-y. The archive was a .lha which was an amiga specific format iirc...

WinRAR can handle lha, then you can rename them to .mod and play them with modplug tracker, or any tracker really, 4 track mod's are fairly standard.

Halo 2, best music for a video game.

Then again... True Crime had a fantastic sound track, but none of it was original(all from rappers and singers etc)

@CR - That is cool My favourite song from T7G soundtrack has to be either the main song you were quoting there, or The Staircase. The soundtrack was very ahead of its time.
