What is an average and maximum poly count for a game action figure that needs to move?

There are no set limits, but there are a few good guidelines to follow.
Here're my guidelines.

Main Character: Max:2500-3000 Avg:1000-2000
Party Member: Max: 2500 Avg: 1000-1500
NPC: Max: 1500 Avg: 500-1000 (depending on whether you want VA or not)
Pre-rendered character (FMVs): Max: As high as you can handle! Avg: 15000+

EDIT: Silly, RPG-loving me! I should probably ask what genre this is before I post guidelines.

My name is Underhill...commit it to memory.

Tyler,
Dude, never give out your phone number online - there's no end of a-holes out there.

For a karate game, you can really spoil yourself. I mean 10,000 polygon characters would'nt bother DBPro, your main concearn is really how much work you plan to invest in animating and texturing after you model the thing. With less polygons, it's easier to texture, and rig for animating because there's less vertices to look after.

I think about 3000 polygons is a good number, 2x3k poly characters would leave tons of power for effects and the level media (I'm surprised there aren't more DBPro fighting games).

Thanks Van, Your the Man!
I am making this model for another programmer. I never modeled a human for DBpro before and didn't want to blow it out.

Also if you noticed before you edited the phone number, there was no area code. I wonder if it was even real. TylerDX young and his posts are usually trite, but harmless.

for long distance shots i would advise you to make good use of LoDs.
they make it much easier for your computer and you wont even see the difference in the distance.
i know this doesnt have anything to do with karate games, but incase any one has a good idea: how would you handle lods with sniper-scopes or binocs? practically you are still far away from the object arent you? what would you do to get the model to switch to best lod?

I do not think there will be any long distance shots. I have never used LoDs, but I expect that in the right situation it is very valuable.

Well, all i know is that DB seems to render high poly stuff veeeerrry nicely. I have had 500,000 polys render at 30 fps on a geforce 4 ti 4200, so you really don't have to worry.

Video games…they can take you places unreachable, impossible, unfeasible. They put you in the book...they put you in the movie...they put you in a world, a world that before could only be imagined.

Info as in email address, not personal details like home address and phone numbers etc. Anyone who posts personal details like that on a public forum has to be dim

i know it was stupid to post a phone # (no offense intended), i was just wondering why it was removed since it was just their info.
