hi (sorry if this post is in the wrong place)

I got this book from premierpress called "Beginning programming with DarkBASIC" to see if I should get db or dbpro

i finally got to the chapter on 3d programming and got all excited and all that other good stuff, but all it did was give me a couple of built in 3d shape commands

it also came with anim8or

is there a way to make my own shapes or something and put them in my program? i want characters for my 3d game...ya know?...not boxes...

is there a way to get in my own models and animations?
is there a manual that comes with DBPro or something that explains how to do this?

plz help
any feedback would be much appreciated

1. Make a model in anim8or, which surely has help files to help .
2. Export the model as .x or watever.
3. Use the command...
load object "blah.x",1
instead of...
make object cube 1,1

Hope that helps

anim8or can only export .3ds

You can better use milkshape for creating and animating models, it is cheap and works very good. It hase many import and export plugins.

whoa! Thanks guys!

but can I ask one more question? I'm complely new to 3d game programming.

i don't see how one one would go about making a 3d game.

i mean pretty much all I've seen is camera movements and object angle adjustments. does that mean that all 3d games are based on a camera moving, rather than a character moving?

I dont get it???

plz explain
thanks again for the help on the models

anim8or uses a custom file format for animations and unless something's changed very recently, there are no converters for the animation in the model. The author published the internals of the file format but I don't think anybody's done an importer or exporter for it.
