We're making this game, think Redneck Rampage without the vulgarity, gore, or first person shooting. That's a pretty crummy description, but heck just go with it.
I have no idea what sort of music would fit this type of game. Do you know any artists or particular songs that would fit the theme?

heh, the only thing that come's to mind is the classic Deliverance movie theme song (Dueling Banjos) any type of bluegrass music would fit as well.

The music from the movie O Brother Where Art Thou... but then again the licensing costs would probably be high...

A game about rednecks, without vulgarity? Is that even possible?

I don't suffer from insanity:

I enjoy every minute of it!

Thanks for the resources guys!

I know we all love the vulgarity, but we're trying to make it somewhat of a tamer game. There won't be swearing, but there will definitely be beer and incest jokes. For example the main character, Earl, has a sidekick named Uncle Dad.

I don't understand what redneck and beer guzzler/incestor have to do with each other? I consider myself a redneck and although I drink beer and listen to bluegrass once in a while, I don't participate in the latter activity.

Rednecks were originally blue collar honest family-oriented people who worked in the sun-- hence "red neck". How it has evolved into a derogatory term is beyond me

EDIT:

But the game sounds funny anyways--- good luck with the tunes search!

I live in South Texas, surrounded by Red necks, hell I am a red neck! Well us red necks like country music for the most part (not me but some of my red neck friends) if you want to go for the classic stereotypical red neck, then you will want something with a banjo in it or the what not, I would say that 80's heavy metal is also a good bet.

Guns arn't the problem, people are the problem, shoot all the people and guns arn't a problem anymore.

Excellent!

Sorry to have offended you Jeku, we're just going off of the puns we hear at the lunch tables and from Jeff Foxworthy.

I was worried about putting metal in it, but now I am definitely going to throw some in for tension. This is awesome guys.

Take it you haven't seen the Ali G episode then? The one where he is in a bar in the US and singing a "classic" country song from his country (made up country). Everybody loved it and was clapping and joining in, singing the song, smiling away. Lyrics could have been written in nazi germany around 1940, but hell, a songs a song apparently. Ali G got in so much trouble for that one, but hell, he's jewish, so I think people missed the point.

Cheers

What?

No vulgarity? You mean, the cousin-marriages are out?

@ Dazzag

Yeah I remember that. He was playing as his character 'Borat' and the song was called 'Throw the Jew down the well'.

The word "Gullible" cannot be found in any English Dictionary.

But I like lynnard skynard, and I ain't no redneck!

I'd say rawhide! (it saved the Blues Brothers!)

Thats the one! I mean we had some pretty stupid and stuck up ar*eholes who fell for Borat's jokes (behaving properly was one of the best), but the american country music one just took the biscuit. Especially the way they all joined in and were clapping their hands and everything. Just get some false little moustaches, turn back the clock, say, 65 years or so, and yeeeehaaaawwww!!!! Makes Kilroy look like a saint.

I know you all love the vulgar, I know I do! But we're also hoping to distribute it to younger kids and not soil our reputation in the local community. I'm liking the Blue Grass stuff with the banjos, harmonicas, and fiddles. We're taking a couple gags from Hick Quest, nothing big just one vehicle and weapon.

Never seen that episode of Dave Chapelle! Sounds offending...

Phaelax, when you say rawhide do you mean like this?:

What is a redneck, and how are they different from hill-billies?

redneck is more country, hillbillies are more innercity.
rednecks have cars sitting on their front lawn with grass growing outa the hood. hillbillies have cars sitting out on their curb with no hoods.
