Her's a very interesting, yet sad story.

Reading stories like these make me vow never to be mean to my children, or any for that matter.

I'd introduce the death penalty just for parents like hers.

Agreed. I believe in "an eye-for-an-eye", but basically what those parents did was destroy that girl's life, so why can't we destroy theirs?

I think the dad committed suicide anyway. The mom is a b*t*h though, that scientific community could actually do a lot for Genie, while stilll learning from her.

After reading that it sounds like she was doing far better under the care of the scientists, the reason being: at least they weren't treating her like a retard, like her mother is.

I don't suffer from insanity:

I enjoy every minute of it!

Is there no child welfare system in the US?

Why was she never checked up on?.

Her mom is obviously nuts, but how in the name of god can a partially blind woman keep a girl captive for so long without the authorities checking up?. In the UK, there's a faster and sometimes clinical approach to child abuse, if the social works department decide, they can walk into your house and take you kids into care without a word of explanation. Even something simple, like dental health, surely every parent needs to proove their kids are receiving proper health care?

yes there is now, vanb, but remember, this is in the seventies..

1. she kept a girl in a dark room, so nobody even knew of her existance
2. they probably never acknowledged her existance, so gov't probably didn't even know she was around.
3. it would be hard to do nowadays, but I'm sure it still happens

Yes vanb, cps (child protective services) does a fairly decent job of making sure children are well cared for, but they can't see everything unfortunately.
