We have split from the chattingaway irc network, and have set up our own, called darkbasicnet. To connect to the new network, the details are:

irc.darkbasicnet.info
#darkbasic

Desktop: AMD Athlon XP2800+,Radeon 9800 128MB, 1.25GB DDR RAM
Laptop: AMD Athlon 64M 3000+,Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB, 512MB DDR RAM

CR,

We were just showing Sajoin and Sapart... just showing it off. I really don't think it was that big of a deal... but if it was, i'm sorry.

Moved to our own network.

Chattingaway was falling apart, for those who didn't notice. And i guess Kent and Lag worked together and made us a network. In the end i think this will be better for us.

For your information Jimmy, I was not an oper when they did the new network. I was asked by kent because I am in the US, know how to do it already, and am on different times. I was also asked after the move... which I agreed to in the first place. The Chattingaway netowrk is not even a network anymore, its 1 server. Lag owned 2 of the servers, bartcop owns the other. The network admin dosen't even have a server. The network was splitting frequently, spam bots were pming me plenty, the network was falling apart. And now, whats left of that network is a snooty admin, and 1 server.

I shoulda guessed any kind of move would be of arguement, and maybe i shoulda disagreed to the move, and we shoulda stayed till the network was just more of a pile of s***.

Besides, we never stay in one place for too long, you know that.

If you love someone, set them free; If they come home, set them on fire.

I think I'm getting to worked up over some freaking CHAT NETWORK. We all are, you guys enjoy.

I'm tired of adding servers to mIRC and recreating channels, and that's really what it boils down to. I'm lazy.

Oh and lag's a fag.

This is the second time you've had to change your mIRC in a year and a half... And the first channel you've had to create.

I usually like your humor, but on this your being extremely childish.

I think we're getting worked up over it because it has become our thing for the past year (or however long it has been). Its what we you, its how we contribute to the community.

1) HHH has a server now
2) The splits occured on Lag's server IIRC
3) I never saw 1 spam bot
4) How was the network falling apart?
5) HHH is snooty because you guys left, then came back and made fun of him for it, and I think you're just saying this because he banned you.

Not trying to get something started here Eric. I'm really tired now, so, goodnight.

1) HHH has a server now

Congrats... now whos gonna set it up for him this time? No MAttP, DJ is AWOL. I can't wait to see this.

2) The splits occured on Lag's server IIRC

The server that happened to be from the same place as Lightning IIRC (which there is a story behind this, but i won't get into details)

3) I never saw 1 spam bot

So the names "JA@~~UDS" and to that liking were regular users? We had more then 6 or 7 a day in Darkbasic (cause it was a busier room).

4) How was the network falling apart?

Spam bots, splits on all the servers (including lags... which i personally belive was a result of a load of users pushed onto the rest of the servers when lightning left)... I think it was due for a collapse. Saddest part, lag owned 2/3 of the servers, bart cop owned the other one. That lasted for how long? It took us leaving for HHH to realize he should maybe get a server lined up.

5) HHH is snooty because you guys left, then came back and made fun of him for it, and I think you're just saying this because he banned you.

I made fun of him?!?

IIRC, he asked us:
"why the F*ck are you still here" and I replied:
"redirecting users" and then he started with the:
"get out" then he banned me after I brought up something (and a small arguement).

HHH has always been snooty. Don't dare tell him hes wrong, or he dosen't know how to do something.

I was just responding in honesty, not trying to start anythign either

[edit] I miss quoted:
[20:54] <Triple_H> ok than why the f*ck are u guys here?
(i censored it myself BTW)

He can set his own server up... I dont know how the "Triple_H is too dumb to run a server" rumor got started.

OK, now seriously, I'm going to bed!

Just a bit from IRC (things in parentheses are things i'm adding now):

[23:41] <EricT> Zero... you don't know how it was started?
[23:41] <EricT> its not really a rumour... its a actual event (It happened while i was one of lags opers on chattingaway, i left shortly after that )
[23:41] <EricT> we learned that he didn't know how to edit his shell manually, on a magical day when lightning was down (He claimed he had a PHP program do it... a program of which we have never found existing)
[23:42] <EricT> he's always had other do his work... lag and DJ were like his pawns (thats my opinion atleast.. i dunno lags and DJ's opinons on it, cause i'm not them)
[23:42] <EricT> I'll grant him one thing, he has learned a bit since then... (i've seen him working a bit more... but still...)

If you love someone, set them free; If they come home, set them on fire.

right you guys.

i was an oper on chattingaway for as long as darkbasic was there. from the way things were, out of all the servers only me,dj747,tm218 and mattp99 knew how to maintain a irc server. if you notice anyone missing like tripleh or fud, thats because.

back in august fud asked triple to help sort out his server config, to which He couldnt work out what was wrong. triple then asked me, because? he didnt know how to configure one aswell.

over the months there i worked out triple didnt even how how to use SSH, from memory he used a webbased config editor. also later to my knowledge he's been paying for the servere, yet he has no user/password to use SSH if and when anything happened.

one day when lightning went down, the server rebooted but the ircd didnt, i waited for triple to come on and guess what? he didnt know how to get it running. so i had to call mattp99 (he owns lightning) to tell him we need the user/pass to boot lightning up again.

when we first moved to the network they were using different hostmasks, bartcop server was using nochimps-TR552H56Y ? it was me who forced them to do ca-f894nf9 so bannings could be easier.

i suggested at least 30 improvements for the network, how many got done without the need for me? 1 or 2. i had to remake their forum, i had to creae a oper forum, i had to tell them what anope modules they needed. oh everytime i done something i had to run it pass triple, but sometimes i just done it anyway.

i will admit the darkbasic servers were a bit unstable the first couple of months we went there, but i kept looking for better servers and i found one. it has proven to be rock solid.

monday i think was when lightning went down, it took me 6 hours to learn that the shell company wasnt doing ircd's anymore. so we adjusted the dns settings to make sure less people got sent to the wrong server. who done the dns stuff? me

i done most of the work on that network. many opers will agree on me. beer has proven to be a stable server since i got it. on wednesday kentaree pmed me and suggested him buying a irc server and the possibility of making our own network. what would you say? yes? no?

the move probably came at the worst time. e.g. lightning died and their only server is darwin. but i asked many people before i actually accepted the move and they all have the thumbs up on it.

so please stop the digging at people. some of you people dont know the facts. oh and jimmy i know you dont like me but why keep posting im a fag?

me and kentaree are here to help you lot.

oh and ask yourself who was the person banning spam bots.

Oh yes. And my two cents on the network move.

#darkbasic as a community spanned multiple rooms and many interests. It's a growing social enviornment, but to expand and keep our current users, we need a stable network and one that the people running #darkbasic can manage without waiting for other people, who are not dedicated to that community and do not have a vested interest in the survival of the room, to take care of problems. From every perspective the move is for the better. The network is faster, it's ours, it's here to stay.

To naysayers I pose the question: why not?

so as of yesterday if you are on the ChattingAway network, we have moved. currently jimmy is taking over the ca room (because he dont like the new network and me)

users in the room should be redirecting you to the new server.

irc.darkbasicnet.info

the java irc chat still needs to be updated to move them users over.

It gets me high knowing i'm a half op in one of four channels on a the official network of a game development solution company positioned on the other side of the planet. But when I look at the stars at night and I think of all the other aliens out there that must be half ops in their own alien chat rooms, it makes me cry.

really guys its just IRC stop this silly bitching. Its just so geeky its like IRC its self is more important than life!
We have our own servers we can imporve how we want to we can have the channels we want to at the end of the day everyone has their own reasons for moving to the new server and people have their reasons for staying with the old server. Fair enough there is no law that says you MUST ONLY HAVE ONE #darkbasic.

Where ever you decided to chat I hope you get the help you require or even just for a random chat as 99% of it is. We dont mind, infact we love it!

I just hope people that are on chattingaway also join #darkbasic on darkbasicnet. and who ever wants to goto chattingaway they can go there. After all pretty much all IRC clients can do multi servers. If you dont want to because of the whole "lag said this, triple H said that" debate. Then you are just being silly.

Come on guys whats happend has happend move on.

The spam bot happened because chattingaway is registered on SearchIRC. We should be able to avoid spambots if we keep of stats sites like these

Anyway, I agree, this network is for convenience more than anything else, we have full control in case anything goes wrong, and above all, its a good learning experience to linux server administration
