Yello there,
I have recently re-written a small collision routine originally posted by Jeff Losee for DarkBASIC...in December 2000!
I would like to build several games around my new code, including a self published budget release or two and, even though my work is now pretty much all original, I would like to ask for Jeff's blessing on my project as some of the collision code has been derived from his.
Problem is, I can find any sorts of contacts for the guy, or even whether or not he is a member of these forums.
I have asked elsewhere and some believe he was known as magellan back in the original DB forums, though not the magellan also known as peter!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure his code was intended for free use but I have kinda halted my work until I can get his blessing on things.
Again, thank you for your time.

Jeff's (aka Magellan) been away from the DB scene for a number of years now. Although he does occasional pop in from time to time, but i can't recall seeing him recently.

Magellan always made his code open for everyone to use if they gave him credit. I'm fairly certain he'd have no objection, but of course it would be better if some way of contacting him could be found to make sure.

It is a perilous occupation for TGC to post anything by way of a promise, as the words get etched in indestructable marble for all time.

Yello once again, and thanks for the replies.
I know that magellan used to run the DBFAQ's website which housed some snippets and tutorials by both himself and others, so i'm quite sure he'd be OK with me using his code. However, I would never like to use somebody else's creations in anyway if I am without their permission to do so.
Anywho, I have found an old e-mail address for Jeff and will attempt to contact him again. However, if anybody believes in the mean time that they could put me in contact with him, or him with me, then I would hugely appreciate it.
Again, thanks for the replies and take it easy!
Cheers,

Yello once again,
Thanks again for all of your help in this. The contact address I found was way out of date and it wasn't long before I encountered the mailer deamon!
Anywho, it's been a fair while since I began seeking Jeff's blessing (I first posted over at Danny's LLRGT months ago) so I will have to give up on this project or else I feel I will never finish any of them. The main reason I wanted to use the code I had created that was based on Jeff's was that it was easier than mine to get split screen working with full collision (this is DBC remember), though I have since spent the past week experimenting with my codebase ("DarkQUAKE", it was mentioned in the newsletter once...thanks Rich!) and should get it working OK (which will actually be better in the long run if I do as DQ has an easy level editor, pretty decent gravity systems and fully working particle and A.I. routines, which my "magellan" code did/doesn't currently have).
That said, if ever anyone encounters Jeff again i'd be greatful if someone could mention this and perhaps even get him to contact me at nalaonline@hotmail.com, I may then make the Jeff derived code open source, with his blessing!
Again, thank you all for both your time and patience with this. Time to get back to DarkQUAKE...
Regards,
Pip(DARKHALO2K)
EDIT: Hmm, using the old contact I had for magellan has led me to a new(er) contact, here on apollo! Maybe it's time to re-think things, again...
